Saw Damien Dempsey last Wednesday in Isaac Butts. He was as excellent as ever. The support act were really good. Does anyone know who they were? Edited by - Sadler on 31 Jul 2002 19:12:10

Yea..They were a couple of guys (and gal) from a band called THe Citadels. They're excellent. Should catch them with their full line up though. Much better. Damo was as good as ever. Kullanzi

They're from Cork and the support to Damo was their second Dublin gig. Their first was the previous night in the Ruby Session (I was at both). They are indeed excellent, but I'd find it very difficult to classify their music. Their CD is due out in a couple of weeks, so maybe they'll gig some more in Dublin in support of it.

I thought they were really good. Pity their from Cork though. Must hate them now 'cos I'm a narrowminded elitist muso dub

The Citadels album that was due out "in a couple of weeks" a couple of months ago is due out "in a couple of weeks". Or so my retarded spy from Cork tells me. Maybe that will give them the kick up the hole they need and actually play a gig in Dublin.

I really don't understand this Dublin vs. Cork s**te when it comes to bands. It's been on this site before and it's been pretty aggressive too. Can't you judge a band by their music regardless of where they're from? Q2

Well said Q2... Getting back to the topic of Damien Dempsey, I was driving back to Dublin on Monday morning (5/6am) and happened to come across AM Kelly on Today fm. She was doing a slot on dodgy Christmas tunes and was playing Damien's version of "Fairytale of Newyork" from the "It's all Bells" CD. They were completely slating it (her and listeners) and it irritated the s**t out of me 'cause it's actually an excellent version with Ms O'Connor on the backing vox. Good luck Damien and Phutloose with the record !

The Citadels launch their album "letting go holding on" on March 8th in the lobby bar, Cork. About bloody time.
