Early this morning, I was listening to the usual breakfast radio drivel while getting up and in my half asleep state I heard something about a copy of U2s forthcoming album "Vertigo" (working title) going missing while they were on a publicity photoshoot. Apparently they are worried that it will end up being distributed on the net (its almost guaranteed to be out there already if it has been stolen). Anyone know anything about this story?

Yes, I heard about this on Ireland.com this morning. It has a touch of the deja vus about it. I remember news reports a few years ago that said that early master tapes of 'achtung baby' had been stolen and bootlegged. Hmm, lightning ? Twice ? Same place ?

This has supposedly happened for almost EVERY U2 album since Achtung Baby. It reeks of cheap publicity stunt. And I say that as a big U2 fan.

Had U2 got a release date in mind for the album?

John Doe, I didn't know this had happened before, but thats exactly what I was thinking, sounds like a publicity stunt. Something just didn't add up, I mean why would they take a copy of the album to a photoshoot, surely it should be locked away in some safe somewhere? If we end up with an album as good as Achtung Baby however, I won't be complaining.

Its quite ironic, they left their laptop outside the Clarendon containing all the lyrics for 'all that you can't leave behind'...bumbum. Apparently it was handed back to them the next day.

and this guy reckons he can help create a better life for millions of people! hahahaha, jeez he cant even mind a cd! keep him away from the guys with their fingers on the buttons! the headlines; "Bush hands A-Bomb activator to Bono: Last seen somewhere up his own ***", think about it, its not UNpossible! in typical irish begrudgery i laugh, but it is a lousy stunt (or thing to happen if its true) for the record i dont like u2, but dont wish them ill, hope it works out for the lads and all,

I reckon it’s just another cheap (albeit a bloody good one) publicity ploy. I was working in a pub Friday and Saturday night, and at least 10 groups of people were having the same conversation – what about U2’s new album going missing. All those column inches, and all those people talking about the album, and it’s cost U2 absolutely sweet f*ck all!!!!

And the greatest offence of all - Network 2 news - reports ends with reporter saying "and tonight U2 " and goes to clip of Rattle and Hum "still haven't found what I'm looking for" Totally fresh and innovative.
