Anyone watch the Eurovision semi-finals? Now before some boring person feels the need to point it out, yes Eurovison music is crap, its tacky, its cheesy and camper than volkswagen er... camper van. But for pure entertainment value it can't be beat. Apologies to any non europeans reading this who have no idea what I'm banging on about, this is something that just has to be seen to be appreciated, even then you may still be completely confused. Highlights of the show had to be Malta and the Ukraine. Maltas entry was what eurovision is all about, pure cheesy goodness, looking (though obviously not sounding) like a duet between an older Charlotte Church and a sleazy version of Robert Smith from the cure. As for Ukraine, all I can say is "Xena: The Musical!" But the best bit was the intermission, no not Turkeys Billy Barry school rejects stage show, but the short film featuring tiny spitting image versions of Abba being auditioned by Rik Mayall. I laughed so hard, I could barely breathe, pure genius! Oh and check out Swedens entry on saturday, a nubile and aesthetically pleasing young lady. Theres just something missing from her act, ah yes, a pole!

Woohoo! what a result, Ireland 7 points! Yay for the Ukraine and Xena! boo to the UK for being daft enough to give us those 7 points. Yeah Malta was robbed again. The big question for RTE is, can all the money we saved by not winning Eurovision again be used to subsidise another series of No Disco?

no they just used it for some silly reality tv/radio show that i cant be ar5ed even trying to understand let alone watch. i think TnaG will have to cop on and seize the oppertunity. they are normally pretty good to show good films and irish (trad.) music shows, they surely are aware of the gap in the market or whatever, right?

Yeah, TG4 (TnaG) are probably the best station at doing what a public service broadcaster is supposed to be doing right now (hang your Head in shame RTE 1 and Network 2). Despite their limited budget they are managing to produce pretty interesting shows, theres a spark of creativity that just isn't there in RTE. I'd love to see TG4 do their own take on No Disco, as much as I loved No Disco, I think its quite possible that its time was up. TG4 could not only bring the show back on the air, but reinvigorate and breathe new life into it. I can't quite put my finger on why, but towards the end No Disco just didn't seem as compelling as the early days. Maybe its just that Leagues never seemed to be a satisfying replacement for Donal or Uaneen. Maybe thats a little unfair considering the circumstances of why he had to stand in and anyway I think there was more to it than just the choice of presenter. I think the show needed to evolve a bit and TG4 seem perfect to do it.
