Hey all... time to sharpen those pens and draw blood from the album that you regretted buying the most... the album that promised so much like a beautiful woman but ended up delivering you a dose of the clap. To start.... Fever To Tell - Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I should have known. When the Evening Standard article I read on this up and coming band concentrated more on the lead singer's dress sense than the music, alarm bells should have been clanging away. "Exuberant", "angular"... words fawning critics used to describe this cacophony of screeching guitar, yelping vocals and scattered drums. I've rarely had a less pleasurable listening experience - my ears literally bled, I stared at the cover ("Did I pick up the demo version?"), will it grow on me (like cancer?)... No no no. Do not believe the hype. This record is bobbins. Is there a reason why a single word chorus has you be squealed over and over like Karen O has just sat on a chair with a strategically placed drawing pin? Even the White Stripes realised that the "no bass guitar" thing was a dead duck - they opened their latest album with the best bass riff of the year. Without the warmth of a bass, this album sounds like you are playing it through the tinniest speakers with the treble turned all the way up to 11. Singularly rubbish, over-worshipped and a placemat in the making, this CD made me fall out with music. A crime that can never be forgiven.

i found the strokes album pretty disappointing. i wouldn't say it was the worst of the year (easily the darkness) but sometimes mediocrity is a worse crime than crapness

To add to the controversy, I didn't particularly rate the 1st album either. Was I the only one who found that after a few weeks, I just couldn't listen to it through. It is sitting here on my desk and I haven't touched it in about 2 years. Also, on the new one, there is a track that sounds so like The Cars, I'm surprised they didn't sue. I'm all for being influenced by the past but they take it to new levels. At least the White Stripes done something new and interesting with it.

Fever To Tell wasn't as good as I had expected to be...but there are a few good songs, and I thought Maps was v.good so I can forgive it for that, so wouldn't be the worst. I f**kin hate the White Stripes version of 'Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' destroyed the song, and sounds like a nasty bag of cats cryin. Sorry I know they are dead corny but I can't help likin' the Darkness, for pure entertainment value, some of the catchiest riffs and pure pop chorus...and for the best tongue in cheek lyrics ("I want to banish you from whence you came"....ha ha ha!) so I can't say they are the worst. My biggest disappointment, and I hate to say it cos I thought they could do no wrong - was the Corals' Magic and Medicine, there are a couple of really good songs, i.e two, and I was expecting a masterpiece because the first album was amazing. Live they are so impressive, it was a real let down to hear some of the songs came across really weak. Maybe it's a grower?? Biggest disappointment was the Ravonettes album ...a bag of boring songs in the key of s**te.

worst album/s of the year easy "The Hiss panic movement" and "jet get born". Both sh1te!!! The N.M.E tricked me in to buying and believing them that they were actually any good. sub-standard oasis rubbish both of them. The nme is as bad as hot press now if not worse!.

the Jet thing is nothing short of scandalous. i saw them live earlier in the year and thought it was derivative nonsense as well as the fact they had their heads up their arses. NME's championing of them is typical of their weekly chase for sensation and sales. the album is woeful and the line in Rollover DJ "you've been playing other people's songs all night" should be removed and given to Alanis Morrseitte as an explanation for irony.
