Why?
Man Man make a tremendous racket. The Philidelphia have over the course of 3 albums fused such disparate styles as indie rock, Balkan folk and jazz to create an utterly raucous style all of their own. Most impressively on 2006’s Six Demon Bag.
In the interest of full disclosure I should admit that I’ll be playing support at this. I figure if you get there after 9:10 I’ll be finished so aim for that. Regardless this would still be the gig of the fortnight for me, I love Man Man.

Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip appeared from nowhere last year with 3 fantastic singles that set Le Sac’s stuttering, glitchy beats against slam poet Pip’s alternately moral and cynical rhymes. They’ve got an album set for release next month and it proves that the duo are far from a one (or even three) trick pony. Angles is a gem of an album that shows that the duo are capable of far more than rants set to club friendly beats and in “Magicians Assistant” they’ve got one of the poignant and genuinely moving songs I’ve heard in years.

Where and When?
Whelan’s, Dublin – 8th May
One of my favourite gigs of last year was this lot's debut Irish appearence in Whelan's back in November. Main man Bradford Cox took a break from the band shortly after to concentrate on his Atlas Sound project (who will be playing a couple of Irish dates in coming months) but he's recently reconvened Deerhunter and in doing so he's made the world a much better, and significantly louder place.
