PSYCHO FEST DUBLIN CITY SATURDAY 22nd OCT 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
DUBLIN'S FINEST RENEGADES SHARE THE STAGE FOR A ONE OFF BASH THAT WILL BE ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING LIVE SHOWS DUBLIN CITY HAS SEEN THIS YEAR.. ALL BANDS ON THE BILL ARE RELEASING RECORDS ON THEIR OWN TERMS, SOME ON THEIR OWN LABEL AND SOME ON UK AND US BASED INDIES, ALL GOING THE DIY ROUTE AT THE START OF THEIR EXCURSION IN THE WORLD OF ROCK AND ROLL.. ALL BANDS ON THE BILL HAVE BEEN PLAYING AT GIGS/FESTIVALS ALL OVER THE WORLD REPRESENTING THE NEW SOUND COMING OUT OF DUBLIN FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS..THE WAITING IS OVER THE TIME IS NOW..PSYCHO FEST ALL DAYER...
FEATURING... THE THINGS, MAINLINE, STAZI JAPE, THE MIGHTY STEF, THE URGES STAGGER LEE, TWIN KRANES, THE ZEALOTS SICK BOY, DC PACT, CAPSULA + The Leather Girls(dj's)
The Things (our host for the evening) Rock’n’Roll Animals – © Evening Herald, said by many to be the best live performers to hit the Emerald Isle in aeons, these five social misfits have been bringing their impressive brand of sleazy rock'n'roll to Dublin and beyond for just over two years now and people love it. 2004 saw them securing both European and US management deals in the same homes as Peaches and Vincent Gallo. The Things had a busy 2005 kicking off with a successful trip to SXSW, Texas and a load of shows in New York including the legendary Death disco. Their high profiled supports are also something to take note of The Warlocks, The Hives, The Fall, The Rapture, Baby Shambles and The Damned to name a few. The band’s debut 7” EP “Psycho Sound” is out now on US label Big Neck Records. Tracks for it also appear on “Get out of my garage punks” compilation, Illbilly Records US and French compilation “Gloria” by Wagram Records which features acts such as the White Stripes and The Dirtbombs. Mainline are already infamous for their euphoric rush of melody and noise, they create a Velvets/MC5 inspired noise with sweeping synth’s, vintage space rock, crescendos and haunting vocals throughout. Debut single 7” on Loog was hammered by XFM, BBC and all other major stations in the UK and Ireland, Q and NME loved the release and because it was a limited edition its now sold out and deleted, 12” versions of “Black Honey” are out now on Pinnacle UK and Plant records in the US. Mainline are currently in the studio finishing an EP due out end of Nov and writing their material for the forthcoming debut album, due Spring 2006. Mainline shows in the UK and USA are quickly becoming stuff of legend, support slots include Ian Brown (exclusive 5 date Irish tour), The La’s, Sonic Youth, The Bravery and many more. Jape is Richie Egan a stalwart of the Irish alternative live scene with two albums under his belt on the Trust me I am Thief label. The music of Jape is a breath of fresh air to the smoggy atmosphere of Dublin. The first album "Cosmosphere" released last year on the Volta Sounds label showed his experimental side with stoner folk and 8 bit electronics rubbing shoulders with friendly ease. It caught the attention of some notable reviewers with Donal Dineen from Today FM playing it on the show, "Here Comes the Night". Jape's new album "The Monkeys In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me" is now available on T.M.I.A.T. This album shows a more thoughtful side to Jape's music. This album is preceded by a radio promo single "Floating", co-produced with David Kitt which melts mortality blues with hip hop beats. The Mighty Stef AKA Dublin city heart breaker Stefan Murphy is a firm believer in have guitar will play school of thought and he keeps it lit all over our fair city and beyond. In the last 12 months he toured the UK and played at the SXSW festival in Texas. First independent release, a double A-side entitled Prayer For The Broken Hearted hit the shops in May this year, it recieved great reviews and good airplay. Influenced by everything from The Clash to Cash, the mighty one tells it how it is and he has a voice like no other, match this with a McGowan type ability to tell a story through song and your half way there, only half mind. Stagger Lee write songs about rope burn, rodeos and stitched lips, embodying the spirit of Robert Johnson’s Devil-at-the-crossroads and Mavis Staples sultry gospel cry. Having recently supported US girl alt-punk outfit Sleater Kinney in the Temple Bar Music Centre, as well as The Duke Spirit and The Kills earlier at this summers Bud Rising festival, Stagger Lee bring their distinctive brand of feral blues and Rock’n’Roll noir to Dublin’s Voodoo Lounge and plan to release their debut single following their appearance at Psycho Fest. in spite of the fact that i know and love many of the individuals involved in the organisation and execution of this event and may sound biased. i just wanna testify that its gonna be an unbelievable day, a celebration of the dark side of the dublin music scene my only critisism is that at €12, the organisers are raping thir own arses..for i think an event of this quality should be 3 times that..but fair play to the things for thikning of peoples pockets. nice one to johnny boss for the cd...i also hear that a documentary will be made on the day to preserve this event as nugget of history for years to come. i cant f**king wait
