Four minutes to go. I'll feeling less cynical today and strangely optimistic. Let the good times roll hopefully

OK, #6 is where is my mind. 2/6. I declare the entire endeavour to be a moderate success. As I have made my mind up already I need never listen again. "Quality sounds only" = s**t tagline.

i declare it a success because it will take over my car radio in between bouts of deciding i should be listening to current affairs... that's good enough for me

just back from the launch night. delerentos and the guys from bell x1 were very enjoyable. not really a fan of the franks and walters so i left. very big crowd and i got some free beer also. good night, but perhaps the crowd took a while to warm up. listened to a lot of the broadcast, the sound levels were very up and down and a lot of nineties was played, but i will probably listen to it a lot. Gar.

Caught bits and pieces yesterday, music selection in the afternoon seemed pretty much the *exact* same as when they went off air 3/4 years ago, down to several of the old Phantom staples from back in the day; PJ Harvey/Thom Yorke - This mess we're in, Alphastates - Sometimes, Fountains of Wayne. Not that that's neccesarily a bad thing, but I'd loved to have heard a little more adventurous/challenging stuff, hopefully that'll come in the next few weeks. One thing that was very noticable yesterday, and again this morning is some of the "whoops what does this button do,errr,ummmm"/"what's that phone number again" type links. Again, first day stuff, that I'm sure will sort itself out.

I think it's great. They played Marcy Playground 'Sex And Candy' last night which I hadn't heard in ages. And this morning, just before I left for work, CSS 'Alala'. Good enough for me. Even though people might bitch and complain about the faults - Phantom is clearly the best radio station in Ireland.

To be honest with you i actually like that DIY ethic that Phantom has always had - lots of 'premier' radio stations try so hard to get that 'casual' feel to their programs - phantom was always like that and hopefully always will be! They always have great tunes - and im not saying the production is lazy or owt - far from it - but the easy going vibe of that station has always been one of the most endearing things about it!

I agree with Benni, I like the presentation style too. I can't stand the smashey and nicey style that most stations adopt.

i am in love with phantom i was awoken this morning to the sounds of pink floyd, new order, depeche mode and others. i faced the day in much more contented humour than usual and actually got to work early and happy...sure it's a little rough around the edges but to be honest I kind of like the humanity of it and as long as they get the music right, i’m happy. whilst there are several phantom staples (music wise) in there at the moment i'm sure in time things will become increasingly 'interesting'....and anyway for now i'm enjoying the nostalgia of it all vive le fantôme p.s. una thanks to a random remote control flick i've now become obsessed with celebrity death beeper! ;)

I agree with this to a certain extent, but there's a difference between casual presentation style, and stuff like not knowing phone numbers, what buttons plays what song, what's coming up next etc etc.. For a masterclass in casual radio presentation tune in to the lads on Off the Ball on Newstalk for a few minutes. Top drawer stuff.

I tuned in around 11:30 this morning to the sound of a Sleater Kinney song that had the tech people rushing into the studio to tell the DJ that something was wrong with the track. She told them it was supposed to sound that way. I think I'll keep listening to her.

Yeah, those guys are pretty good at creating the relaxed atmosphere of a pub discussion (though better informed, obviously), which suits that show well.. I haven't given the new Phantom a shot yet, I'll probably tune in at the weekend, hopefully they'll be over whatever little hiccups they're having after a couple of weeks (and I imagine they'll play it safe with the music choices for a while so as not to scare away the more casual listeners who might be checking them out during the novelty period).

I'm SOOOO glad phantom is back! No need for tv anymore. HURRAY!! Good music, (if not all the time at least interesting/different/non-mainstream music)!! It IS now safe to turn on the radio.

nice one roxy, see ya next week hopefully. I was late for work again this morning because I was listening to the station. Must actually buy a radio and throw my poxy ipod away so I can listen to it on the way to work. You forget how much you miss good music don't you? Edel Coffey played CSS, Hal, Marianne Faithful, The Chalets and Hole this morning all in a row. Brilliant.
