70 euros a ticket but I have to say, probably worth it. Friday oversight due to too much Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V ing. ais.

Have to disagree, Mr Friday is one of the reasons I am going. If you ever get the chance to go see his own show live, jump at it. Have seen him twice in samll venue's and they rank as some of my favourite gigs ever. Albums are great too, but avoid the Prunes stuff.

Yeah, it is a charity event, for that w**ker Friday. Everytime I see his name, it is quickly followed by Bono. Same with that other tosser gucci of whatever teh fvck he's calling himself. Will Lou Reed be actually singing? Heard that some of it might be on video screens

Friday's solo stuff has been excellent. Shag Tobacco was good if a bit sub Tom Waitsish. His work with Maurice Seezer has been good also. Won't be going to this gig though. Why is it being held in Dublin?

I'm sorry, but he just seems like such an a**hole I could never take him seriously. Last time I saw him was at the back of the Ambassador with Guggi at a Beth Gibbons gig. He had a mullet for Chrissake! And was wearing a full length leather jacket, came to the gig for 20 minutes and spent the whole time looking around to see who'd recognise him. Don't rate his music either. Big fat no.

Funny you should say that because Friday has a track on the new Hal Wilner project 'Rogues Gallery'...oh and so does Lou Reed....and andrea corr...and Bono, funny that. Actually, the Lou Reed track is a blast, he does 'Leave Her Johnny' and its so gothic and deadpan I half think he is taking the mick out of himself. I mean he has started to pause mid word, "Leave. Her. John - ny. Leave. Her". Most versions of this song take 1 to 3 mins maximum to perform, Lou takes 5 and a half minutes ! 5 and a half minutes, forchrissakes !!! He makes it sound like the caretaker at Christchurch cathedral has downed a bottle of scotch and had a lash at the church organ after everyone has gone home for the night.

Great stuff last night, great, great, great. Anthony was definite stand-out for me, even the tiny wee lead he took in Who By Fire was devestatingly good and as for his rendition of If It Be Your Will, top notch. Nick Cave managed to do my three favourite songs, smashing. No Diamonds in the mine though, shame. Beth Orton did a great job on So Long Marianne. This Anjani young one, although I was aware of her existance and the work she did with Cohen, I'd never heard her by herself. Sexy, pure and simple, sexy.

Got a last minute ticket for tonights gig, lucky lucky lucky. Can't wait for The Handsome Family in particular. I'm a Gavin Friday fan, can't help it. Shag Tobacco gets a dusting off at least every month for me. His live shows can be great, and the soundtrack stuff he's done with Maurice Seezer is always outstanding. I don't really care much about his hair or clothes or friends.

Great gig last night, ended about 12.30 after 31/2 hours of awesome music. Antony stole the show, but all artists were great, Mary Margret O'Hara and Gavin Friday doing Halleluia was mesmerising. Friday looked genuinely frightened beside O'Hara and I wouldn't blame him, she is mad. The arrangements on the first few Nick Cave performed songs were too nick cave like but after that he was great. Handsome family and especially Beth Orton were superb. And what a band.....All in all the best €70 i have spent in a long time, even the Point's crap venue status seemed to fade.

miwadi, its funny two completely separate people have told me today that the Gavin Friday / O'Hara thing was absolutely appalling to the point of hilarity?! I'll make my own mind up tonight anyway.

I choose my words carefully and used the word "mesmerising". My favourite version of this song is by John Cale, although Jeff Buckley's version is good as well, in fact Leonard's version is not great. As none of the above were in the house, it was good to hear a different take on the song rather than someone try and copy them (you know I am talking about you Rufus). There is nothing worse than a cover version that is merely a rehash of the orginal. To that end Mary Margret O'Hara's version was definitely different (for once GF was reduced to the role of "foil") and I did laugh during it. But the performance (another key word) was mesmerizing and definitely not appalling. I suppose I knew her "singing" was not going to be conventional, having heard her album in the '80's and thus really enjoyed her performance. What more can I say other than make your own mind up, but do not try and compare it to the Cale or Buckley versions. One way or another you are in for a great night.

Apparently she's Mr. Cohen's latest squeeze too.

When she walked out on stage my friend likened her to one of those drunk divorcees you see at the end of a bar. I'm not a fan of Jeff Buckleys preening version of Halleluia, so Im all for something a little different thats going to detach itself from the "lighters in the air" song its turned into. But seriously, all that grunting and growling from MMOH was just annoying. She sounded like a cat being sliced open with a violin bow. All novelty, no substance. (And by the way Im not the person who heckled them...I thought about it though ) Biggest highlights: Nick Cave, Antony, Beth Orton Biggest disappointments: Lou Reed ...apalling, his voice is shot to bits Funniest moment: Beth Orton wondering what to do with herself while Jarvis swivelled his bony hips around her. Most mesmerising moment: The saw player...incredible. A good night.

A fantastic night. I was in the 5th row, middle - couldn't believe how great the seats were (thanks C!!!). Antony stole the show for me - a total revelation. Beth was great and just looked like she was having a ball up there. Jarvis I have a major soft spot for and I think he's a great showman. Gavin Friday I can't stand, he's such a sleazebag, but I thought he and Mary's interpretation of Hallelujah was fresh - and let's face it, that's a hard song to do anything with and not come out negatively compared to Rufus/Jeff etc. It made me laugh, but in a good way. As for Lou Reed - it seemed like he was having a tough time multi-tasking (i.e. playing the guitar/foot pedals AND singing) and Nick Cave - I just thought they were average. Well Nick was just Nick - which is great, but compared to Antony well...it was pale. Ais.

Anthony Anthony Anthony... There was not a whisper in the house any time he was on, now thats a good example of mesmerising. I must admit I didn't totally hate that version of Hallelujah, as has been said already it was completely different from whats been done before. There seemed to be a 50/50 split in audience, half appalled at it and the other half thoroughly enjoying it and laughing. Everyone seemed to fall in love with Beth Orton, and Jarvis Cocker gave some lighter moments which was a nice contrast to all the earnestness. I don't think I've ever cringed so much as I did watching Mary Margaret O'Hara absolutely botch up a song and keep apologising for it and then laughing like a crazy toy dog.

Yeah, the botch was a bit cringeworthy, shame it started the 2nd half. Beth Orton surprised me with So Long Marianne cos I hadnt been a fan of her voice up to now. She really belted it out. I like Jarvis too, Nick was cool, liked Handsome Family too. Anthony was great, although it felt to me that people had decided he was the best from the off. As soon as he came out he got the biggest cheers. My low point was "Bird On A Wire". Dont know her name but it was like she was singing the Star Spangled Banner or something. Big showboaty voice, bit too Leann Rimes for me! Not keen on Lou Reed in general. As for Hallelujah, well Im all for "interpretation" but I'd love to here an explanation for their take on it! Close your eyes and it was like listening to the Muppet Show. Great show all in all.

That Pete lad from BigBrother has a lot to answer for, tourette's sufferers are being allowed to get up to all sorts, including making a muck of a good song. As for heckling, I found myself wondering on Wednesday night why is there always some d**khead who roars out "WonderWall" at a quiet point of a gig, or is it the same tool turning up everywhere I go??? The saw was amazing, I'm off down to B&Q to get practicing!!!
