M.I.A. is nearly 31...

Jeez.. she certainly doesn't look it. Dirty thirties, eh? I like her even more now!

I know, I must find out what moisturiser she uses.

If you find out, let me know!

I'm listening to an old tape I found - must've made it in primary school.. it's stuff from Dave Fannings show, with stuff like The Cure "Lullaby", Llyod Cole "Are You Ready to be Heartbroken", The Cult "Edie", U2 doing "Unchained Melody" and some Sugarcubes stuff. Nice!

Mostly been listening to

Ewan Pearson - Piece Work: excellent retrospective of one of the finest remix producers in the world today.
Chromatics - Night Drive: The post electroclash Italo revival continues, but in a slower, darker, more late-night vein than Sally Shapiro. The cover of Kate Bushs "running up that hill" is pretty awesome.

I'm doing a little project where I'm only listening to the radio and not to music I choose. My ears have never been so offended...

I'm going through a phase of just listening to the radio, not a project like yours but just feeling a bit jaded... I'm more likely to find new stuff if I skip across the wavelengths than if I go to the usual sites/places...

I've just rediscovered an old favourite, "Shame" by Brad. Anyone remember them?! Bloody great album, forgot it existed.

Today I have been mostly been listening to tracks from Apparat, Modeselektor, and most bizarrely Moby. "Play" is actually sort of listenable again these days now its no longer on every single ad on the telly.

Good man Binokular! Been listening to an awful lot of Apparat recently myself, mostly 'Walls' and 'Duplex' from a few years back which is a better album, imo. Where does he get those sounds from? Have you checked out the collaboration he did with Ellen Allien 'Orchestra of Bubbles'? Quite excellent though less 'glitchy'. Saw him at Electric Picnic this year, me and about 12 other people!

'Play' is a masterpiece is always listenable, despite the fact he licensed every track out to advertisers. It really came out on nowhere in 1999 and I was fascinated by it for a long time. Mind you he's failed to make decent follow-up ever since.

Yep, love that album, it's how I heard of Apparat in the first place, only heard of him because I'm a massive fan of Ellen Allien and the whole Bpitch Control thing. Not heard Duplex, must check it out.

" despite the fact he licensed every track out to advertisers".. you can't knock an artist for making money, unless they're already totally minted. If they're decent & it helps finance their career, then fair f**ks to 'em. Must check this music out - not heard it yet.

Though you CAN knock Moby for it - he licensed his albums before they were even released! Not to mention his abominable live shows.. WHY would sommeone who obviously can't hold a note, sing live & WHY WHY WHY did he think that he could run around the stage with his guitar, attempting "rock god" poses and not look a complete & utter twat? Had he kept schtum & Stayed behind a keyboard, he'd have pulled it off with finesse.

I doubt Moby would have got any airplay or exposure if he had not licensed the albums before they were released. In a way, a better idea than licensing them after release where the advertiser is only cashing in on the post-release success of the album.

Fair point.

he actually seems like a nice bloke, but sort of annoyingly smug too.

Iron and Wine - 'The Shepherd's Dog'
British Sea Power - 'Do You Like Rock Music?' This could turn out to be my 'Boxer' of this year.
QOTSA- 'Era Vulgaris.' Took me ages to give this a chance, and it's a lot stronger than I thought.

Also various Robyn tracks I got my little brother to download for me...

You'll like this so, Christian Falk featuring Robyn & Ola Salo "Dream On", sound quality isn't the best unfortunately.
