that was a fantastic festival in my eyes.
i need to go to sleep now though.
lovely weather - lovely atmosphere - well laid out and organised, saw no trouble, saw nobody even crying.
in short, i'd a brilliant time, one of the best festivals i've been at in ten years.

    well done EP!
    now sleep.

Great weekend, saw an awful lot of music, too tired now to make a decent post. Highlights were probably Tapes n' Tapes, Tilly & the Wall, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Pet Shop Boys.

I had a deadly time at this - again. Missed a few people I wanted to see including (sob) Gary Numan due to being absolutely mashed on friday night but it was worth it....kinda..!! Highlights for me was The Rapture, Sparks, Gang of Four (oh my god!!), New Order and a Dance DJ duo I'd never heard before called Mode Selectah (i think) - there were some seriously evil banging bass lines!!!

Am still in a kind-of daze, sitting at work, sorry the whole experience is over. Had a fantastic weekend, survived the rain and the 3 hour trek from Dublin on Friday. Rufus was definitely the highlight yesterday, he was brilliant, he played solo on piano and guitar - The Gay Messiah, The Art Teacher, Cigarettes & Chocolate, California, Rebel Prince, Grey Gardens, Hallelujiah, all superb. Saw lots of music, dEUS, Massive Attack, Devendrha Banhart, Dub Gospel Choir, Bloc Party, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Jape, Archie Bronson Outfit, Glen Hansard solo, Paul Noonan solo, Tapes and Tapes, Broken Social Scene, Long Blondes, the Blue Nile and more… Lots of running around the place and was disappointed to miss PJ Harvey cos the tent was jammed, kinda stupid she was in one tent and Damien Rice in another and both places packed, and the main stage was empty. Never made it to the Comedy tent or cinema tent for any of the matches. Didn't see any trouble but heard about the tents being robbed. Was in the red campsite and there was no problems but it was kinda hard to find a spot to camp on Friday afternoon. Thought the security in the place were sound. Might be able to put more thoughts together on the whole thing later in the week but at the moment this was even too much of an effort...

Yeah saw your man getting up alright, would take a bit of balls to hop up there on the main stage and play a song! I think he'd met him teh night before in Whelans though or something? Devendra does that at all his gigs I think, remember the gig in cork he did anyway but no one would go up. Broken Social Scene don't really get them, find them even a bit boring live dare I say it. Thought Jape were great too, have they an album out? Ended up seeing them twice, much better on the Friday on Big Tree cos by saturday his voice was fecked. Some interesting covers along the way too Laura Ibizor - Crazy Blue Nile - Strangers in the night Semifinalists - I wanna dance with somebody Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah

Yeah, Devendra Banhart did the same thing last year in The Village with some dude in the crowd. Sounds like you all had a great time. Was watching some of it on the goggler and vowed never to miss an EP again and to get my tickets in good time for 2007. Sleep now, my pretties :-]

I think I may have freaked Lisa Lobsinger out when I met her and Charles Spearin from BSS after Yo La Tengo (who were great). In my defence I'd been drinking heavily for much of the day (is that a defence?) Paraphrasing here: Me: Wonderful gig. Her: Thank you, I'll always come back here you guys are just the best crowds. Me: Oh I bet you say that to all the natives. Her: No, I mean it, we were in England last week you're way better. Me: Yeah right. I think she knew I was teasing, but if the band never come back here again then sorry everybody. Anyone catch Saul Williams? Holy s**t, he was intense. Redneck Manifesto were amazing on Friday night.

Ah here - so what if there was posing or not.... the dude got up and played his own tune in front of a bigger crowd that he's ever played in his life in front of a performer he's mad into.... thats deadly. You just sound bitter dude! Maybe next time.... I thought the YYY were cool but her voice can be pretty dodgy at times... still tho they rocked to f**k. Yer man Brian Chase is some drummer. Holy f**k.

he wasn't very good. sounded like he might be alright till he opened his mouth. Devandra and the band looked like they were laughing at him too. the crowd were kind but I don't know why.

i was kinda sore that devandra didnt play an acoustic number given that his first 50 albums were just him on the guitar.it was still savage and he came across as a realy sound guy .still would have liked too see him play at the hop or sight to behold ...

Yer man from Galway who sang with Devendra is called Leon and he had a brief spell in a band called the Dirty Sweets. He's a really nice guy and I thought that his song wasn't too bad but maybe I’m biased. I had a great weekend although I ended up drinking way too much and sleeping very little and as a result I missed quite a few bands that I would have liked to check out. Out of the bands I did catch my favourites were Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Belle & Sebastian, Cut Chemist, PJ Harvey and Spank Rock. The only really bad act I saw all weekend was Gary Numan. With the exception of Cars and Are Friends Electric his whole set was comprised of sub Nine Inch Nails industrial nonsense. I'm surprised to hear about the tents being robbed as it seemed like a really lovely crowd. The weather could have being nicer, the queues for the food stalls were a bit long and there could have been more Portaloos but no gig is ever going to be perfect. Overall I had a great time. The food was lovely, the communal showers were far quicker then the private ones that were there last year, I saw some great bands and the security didn't frisk me once so I continuously smuggled booze into the concert area throughout the weekend. I have to say that the security weren't as sound as last year though. I saw a couple of them really losing the head in the male toilet section beside the Electric Arena. All the portaloos and the urinals were in use so a load of lads started p*ssing against the railings. All the railings surrounding the toilet area were wrapped in canvas so nobody else could see what they were doing and there were no women allowed in the area so I didn’t see any harm. But the security stormed in and started screaming abuse into the faces of the people who were taking a slash and manhandling them out of the area. It was all very over the top. Also when Belle & Sebastian invited a person up on stage the security pulled the wrong person out of the crowd. When they realised what they had done about three of them ganged up on him and removed him from the stage area with way more force then was necessary. They could do with chilling the f*ck out. B&S fans are hardly the most dangerous concert goers in the world now are they?

think my favourite part was hearing "anthem for a seventeen year old girl"... was so happy, i got off the sofa, made myself a cup of tea and treated myself to a jaffa cake... ...as for rte coverage, can't believe so many people are moaning about it... it was one of the most bizarre decisions ever to have that much coverage of a niche festival, anyway... wait for the ratings... i'd be really surprised if they're not abysmal... so... can't see them spending too much time repeating it... best you can hope for is small clips shoiwing up in other music shows i would guess

Yeah it must be a certainty that there'll be a highlights show at some stage in the coming weeks. The overwhelming consensus though was that the coverage was crap, too much conversation not enough action, highlights show might be better.

I am now a shell of a man, but I wouldn't have it any other way. What a weekend. The only bogey thing that happend the whole weekend was waking up in a puddle on Saturday morning but sure that's what u get wen u pitch your tent hammered in 2 minutes. Highlights for me were Hot Chip, The Rapture, 2 many DJ's, New Order. I also quite enjoyed Jim Noir's set in the Crawdaddy stage......roll on next year....anyone got any aspirin?

One thing that was very obvious too was the very relaxed attitude to cans, everyone was drinking them everywhere. I passed one of the main Heineken bars Sunday evening and there was no one in any of the queues, the bar staff were looking very bored.

security were good i though, no urinals in campsite was just very silly though. They probably should have roped off walkways too, would be better i think if all the campsited opened together and you could just pick yourself. Obviously with people advising on how busy it was. All in all though, by far the best festival experience ive had in ireland, very impressive, n roll on next year!

My EP.... Friday Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan - Big Tree Vevitier - Big Tree - cool rock Jape - Big Tree - rocked the crowd, Floating went down a storm Devendra Banhart - Main Stage - Pretty good, liked the dancers and stuff, still he's an artist for a small stage not a main stage I think Antony & The Johnsons - Main Stage - God not sure about him, he turns every song into a wail and then when you have people standing beside you trying to sing along in similar type wail it all gets very messy. He was very nervous too. Needs to be seen in a smaller venue I think, his album is enjoyable but I wouldn't want to hear another album by him. PJ Harvey - Crawdaddy - ridiculously big crowd, I was way back couldn't get into it, she claimed to have gone to the toilet 3 times just before coming on because she was so nervous playing solo and it wasn't number one, thanks PJ for the info. Massive Attack - Main Stage - enjoyed them, not outstanding though Saturday Laura Izibor - Crawdaddy - nice slow start to the day everyone sitting down, great version of Crazy, she's got loads of charisma Jape - Foggy Notions - scrathcy voice, partied out from the night before I think Jim Noir - Crawdaddy - ah gotta like Jim and his infectious pop The Skalites - Main Stage / BSS - Electric Picnic - BSS just don't do it for me live at all Tapes n' Tapes - Foggy Notions - fantastic, Insistor was the highlight of the festival I think Tilly & The Wall - Foggy Notions - hot, hot, hot, love the music, love the girls too! Belle & Sebastian - Electric Arena - enjoyed them, no surprises Yo La Tengo - Foggy Notions - caught second half their set, really good SFA Bingo - Foggy Notions - their brilliant selves as ever, a little short though after an extra long sound check Damien Rice and Friends - Big Tree - Damien joined by all his buddies has his little Live Aid moment Sunday Alabam 3 - Main stage - The sun comes out and we get Woke Up This Morning and Ain't Goin To Goa Aberfeldy - Foggy Notions - a bit iffy I think, supported James Blunt, says it all Semifinalists - foggy Notions - excellent set with a I Wanna Dance With Somebody cover thrown in too Blue Nile - Main stage - caught a bit of this, nothing to get excited about Long Blondes - Foggy Notions - like them a lot Richard Hawley - Crawdady - Enjoyed his set King Creosote - Foggy Notions - not bad, good music Amadou & Mariam - Main Stage - pretty cool, stayed for a few songs and their big one whatever its called, perfect act for the Main Satge afternoon slot. Rufus Wainwright - Electric Arena - great as usual, impressive to hold the attention of a crowd as big as the Electric Arena playing solo on piano, not many artists could do it, his cover of Hallelujah is just getting better and better Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Main Stage - electric....lived up to my expectations, greta to hear Maps too Pet Shop Boys - Electric Arena - A pop masterclass, super set, the crowd was eating out of the palm of their hand Basement Jaxx - Main Stage - Dance your heart out The Frames - Big Tree surprise to close the festival, not very exciting really, same old thing. To top it off Glen says at the end after singing Skylarkin, noboddy applaud just walk away keep singing, walk away, don't applaud, don't let the festival end.........cringe

Fantastic weekend, finally a festival where the music isn't the main and sole attraction. Can't really pick out highlights but was great to wander around and hitting the bars in body and soul and chilling, or hanging out at lost vagueness knocking back vodka. I can't really find any faults besudes too few portaloos but wasn't too bad. I just legged it to the least popular stage at the time and most of the time there was no queue. I thought Yeah Yeah Yeah were amazing, great show and fantastic atmosphere. two thumbs up. PJ Harvey wasn't overly impressed. Played too many new songs which is not what you want at a festival. Hot Chip were excellent as was BSS. New order great. Caught the last two songs of the Pet Shop Boys (never heard about the change of time) and they sound great. Great festival, superbly organised, thought security were sound. Nice food, good value for money and hardly a logo in sight! It was a bit like a mini glastonbury, a lot of the stalls and stages were from there.

I had VERY high expectations for Yeah Yeah Yeahs and they were met. I was right at the front and couldn't believe how amazing they were. The sound was brilliant and Karen O was almost subhuman she was so good. AWESOME! Bloc Party was excellent also. The lights looked really cool through the rain and Modern Love was fantastic. Hot Chip were good too. Other highlights: Delorentos, Dublin Gospel Choir, New Order, Basement Jaxx. uh, actually can't remember who else I saw because my brain is still seeping out my ears. Silent Disco was fantastic, as were the forrest/woods thing will all the little clearings and mini stagey type things. Thought the setting was just fantastic, way nicer and bigger than last year, spread around really well. Security was very helpful as were the gardai. The food was lovely too. Sin e.

Yeah was up the front too for YYY, what a show! Karen O, proper rocking out. The little stage in the woods was brill, forgot to mention that as was the Body and soul area, some really nice touches. Wasn't impressed with bloc party, thought they were rather flat and a bit dull. Anyone go to the comedy stage? Anytime I walked by it was rubbish, besides David O'Doherty. One guy was talking about how Germans leave their towels on sunbeds, hi lar ious.

Great weekend! The set up of the whole place was so good, cudda stayed for a week. Anyone catch The Things?? They were insane. Also loved Jape & The Redneck Manifesto. Jape and 'Kitsers' little bond is gas. Thought the YYYs were amazing, Karen O is an incredible performer. Gang of Four were also insane and although im not their biggest fan, i thought Bloc Party put on a great show. Was it just me or did Damien Rice play about 6 sets??

Yeah went to Shadow, wasn't great at all. Heard the bad reviews about him this summer but some friends insisted on going. Left after 20mins, around the time he brought one of his guests on. But we did hear the rest of his set from the bed in the Bollywood bar. He sounded ok and not as bad as the reviews he got. Played some tracks off entroducing.

Russian Futurists were another one of the bands who went missing from the lineup, they weren't at it as far as I know. Thought King Creosote were very good, only saw the last song of Minotaur Shock but they sounded interesting

I thought Gang of Four was the absolute highlight. Surpassed all expectations. Saul Williams was amazing too. Yo La Tengo great, but real pity they didn't play more old stuff (just played 3 songs that WEREN'T off the new album i think? Little Eyes, Tom Courteney, Sugarcube) Yeah Yeah Yeahs pretty good too, what was the story with the drummer's hand? Broken Social Scene are MUCH better when they're restricted to a 1 hour set! Quite enjoyed them. Great show from some locals too... Giveamanakick, Messiah J & The Expert, Jape, Warlords of Pez - all superb.

Brakes were deadly. No one was at it. They clashed with loads of big name stuff; strange to put them so late because generally speaking, they're not well known. if you like the record, you would have loved the show. hot chip played a pretty flithy set. Very good fun. Even manage to drag a few of the Bodytonic pill martyrs away from their home for an hour.

I didn't venture into the Bodytonic tent but even just in passing it was enough to give me a headache and temporary hearing loss. Joking aside how did people spend the weekend in there without ear plugs or something that volume would do serious damage.

Anyone see Spank Rock? Love the tune "Sweet Talk" and have been toying with the idea of picking the album up based on that alone. So, how were they live? Bassy, funky and profane?

Yes, yes, yes, amazing. I got up early on Sunday morning to go to the poetry slam in the Leviathan tent in the expectation that he'd be there. His plane was delatyed though. He played a great set later on though. Antistar, I saw Mogwai, they were great. I don't get how all you people are saying such nice things about the distinctly average performance the Yeah Yeah Yeahs gave. Una is right, Delorentos were good.

Yeh, saw Mogwai.Excellent as usual.Played a good bit of the new album.Nice and loud!. Saw a good bit of Deus before them.Got a great crowd and where pretty good.Massive attack where so much better than i thought they'd be on friday night.Really good light show aswell. Saturday was a busy one.Started with Jim Noir.Really good vocals. The singles sounded great aswell.Broken social scene where stunning. As where the Super furries on the main stage.Thankfully the sun was out for it.Then watched the match.Went to New Order after.Very dissapointing.Just think they're past it.Super Furries acoustic bingo was a good laugh.Caught a bit of Groove armada and then the endof 2 many DJ's. Good day of music. Quieter day on sunday.Started with the semifinalists.not bad at all.pretty funny aswell. Elbow where outstanding.Guy Garveys vocals are incredible.wasnt sure they'd pull it off on the main stage, but they did! The Rapture where fairly good.some of new songs sounded decent. The Earlies where amazing in foggy notions.Had to be the most people i've ever seen on a stage that size. Thought the basement jaxx where awful.cant believe they get away with headlining so many festivals.3rd time seein them.never again. Quality festival again.not as good as last year but didnt expect it to be.Only complaint would be the lack of urinals.ridiculous!

I thought Mogwai were awful, walked out after ten minutes. Went on the basis of recommnedations here without hearing any of their stuff. Not sure how you could call YYY's performance average. Call it woeful, awful etc but average?

I thought the YYY were good - but her voice can be really dodgy at times... so much so that its quite obvious that the guitar is cranked up to compensate on loads of occassions. They're a deadly band, they're all deadly musicians and she's a great front woman - but if you can't pull of the singing when you're the singer.... well that is a little bit s**t. Still tho - I wouldnt say they were awful - just not the amazing band they are musically on record.

It was my first time to see Mogwai live and they blew my mind, they were fantastic. The Rednex were great too. One of my highlights was the Dulsori Drum Project, what a start to a festival.

It was the brilliant songs Pol, spot on. Calm down, each to their own. Someone asked what was mogwai like, I thought they were awful and someone else heard they weren't any good.

The Yeah Yeah Yeah's have written one truly great songs, Maps, everything else is completely meh. It was the performance of that one song that dragged their show up to average, I was bored for the rest of it. Howling like a banshee and jumping around like a clown does not make you fantastic, if it did we'd all love that Brendan Kilkenny dude. Nerraw, do you like post-rock at all?

highlight was pet shop boys, absolutely amazing, poptastic show. gary numan was brilliant, only went in to keep my mate happy (long time fan even went to see him land his mitsubishi zero plane at baldonnel airshow years ago!) and was blown away - though halfway through the thought that he reminded me of ben stiller in zoolander caused havoc in my brain. belle and sebastian and mogwai very very good (i saw b&s years ago in manchester free trade hall and they were useless live then - way better now) broken social scene, hot chip, semifinalists, tapes'n'tapes all impressive, was worried at start of amadou and mariams set that no-one would be there but crowds streamed over for what was a really good set. massive attack were absolute muck, bored the bejaysus out of me.oh pj harvey was great when she played guitar but there were serious sound problems with her piano and drum machine yoke. great vibe to EP very few idiots, great food (yum pieminister) and security excellent too. roll on next year.

ah... go on, nerraw... you've missed out on a whole genre (and not just a fly-by-night makey-uppy one either, a genuine honest-to-goodness indie stronghold of the last 15 years... start with slint's 1991 masterpiece, 'spiderland' and move forward from there...

I was up the front for the YYYs and i cudnt criticise a thing, Karen O is an amazing front woman. And how could u possibly expect her to stay pitch perfect while pulling off the most energetic performance of the weekend?? 'Pin' anyone no?? Agree with Pol,luv the clown look and her banshee howling is her trademark. Mogwai were great.

Nah im not talkin about pitch perfect singing - if your a performer like that you obviously will have a few wobbles n s**t when your runnin around - but when there is quite an obviously massive strain on her voice to reach certain parts of the songs thats a bit bogey - ive seen their live performances on TV too and its always the same - a significant drop in vocal strength so much so that in large parts of the songs you can barely hear if she started singing.

I know I'm late here but,... DJ Shadow, PJ Harvey and Redneck Manifesto - amazing. Broken Social Scene, Belle + Sebastian - enjoyed. David Kitt + Bloc Party - utter s**te. Yo La Tengo - 'little eyes' so lovely but overall disappointing. The Frames - Same old crap, irritating fans and Glen s**teing on about nothing, sick of this band. Had to leave early on Sunday - Missed YYY's, Rufus Wainwright, Hotchip + Cut Chemist.

Anybody see the Frames and Damo Rice at the Big Tree last thing on Sunday! They truly confirmed how big a bag of pricks they are. And I quote Glen Hansard here: "Don't let this feeling go, just keep singing and walk away" (w**ker) Highlights for me were Bloc Party, YYY's, Rufus, BSS, Tapes n Tapes, Basement Jaxx, Massive attack, Neil Delamare, Joe Rooney. In my drunken state I forgot to see the Rapture and repeatedly kicked myself on Monday when I finally realised I missed them. The weekend was so good I have a chest infection as a result.

To be honest I can't hear them saying it really, it was a Glen special but I'm not really up for Frames bashing etc. either, as you say if you don't like them stay away. It was funny on saturday, the The Big Tree stage area was Damien Rices home turf for the weekend but there was a guy wandering around in there on Saturday with a T-shirt with the slogan "Damien Rice is a c**t" ...... I guess some people just love to hate .....

Didnt see rice play any of his 40 gigs over the weekend but im guessing the same 10 songs sounded the same at least the frames have a few albums. they sound a bit samey but at least there trying !!! In the interview glen was preety open about the songs and wasent precious in offering advice or dooging his own songs even admited that putting two old frames songs on his solo attempt was a bit silly and that he got a bit excited in the studio . It was nice to see the anti hansard persona . Rant over .

In fairness Micheal Franti would definitly be prone to spouting this kind of remark but at least he's all hippy dippy. Glen Hansard is irish; you can't get away with that kind of remark if your irish, unless of course you're bono...

Yes, of course. Even Franti wouldn't stoop to such a cringeworthy remark and this from a uber-hippy who has been walking around barefoot for the last 6 years! Hansard says these things 'cos he is a buffoon of the highest order.

nah, can't agree with that. i've seen them three times now, and after twenty minutes of their gig in EP i just went "feck this". interesting music, but it just doesn't interest me.

I went because believe it or not, I really like their music! The more I see them live, however, the less I can take of his fake chit-chat and watching the rest of the band go through the motions. I was thinking at the time, 'Ah The Frames, this should be decent enough' but no sooner had they unleashed 'fake' I was torn between hurling my pint at his face or glassing the 6ft blonde Corkonain to my left who thought she was in a club... I left instead. Sorry, I promise I won't see them again and complain about it.
