Some of you may have only gotten over the World Cup disappointment and are still seeing that Zidane headbutt happening in slow motion, but the football world doesn't wait around. In fact, the Premiership is starting again next month and that means fantasy football is back. For anyone interested, it's free, a good laugh, makes Watford vs Reading games interesting (if you are unfortunate enough to pick one of their players) and easy to set up.
Just go over to www.premierleague.com. Then click on the 'Game On' option on the left hand side, then go for 'Play Now' under the Play Fantasy Premier League sub-head and register. When all is ready, enter the code below.
There is a Cluas league set up using this code: 9907-2687

Its gas I watched the world cup final thinking that Zidane looked the image of daniel day lewis as Butcher Bill in gangs of new york, and then he proved me right with that headbang, what a sorry state football is in.

when we were watching the match last night, i was telling my sister about the piece tom humphries wrote on saturday, about a 15 year old ZZ headbutting someone in a game when he was being watched by a scout. then - ba-boom - ZZ decides to show us he hasnt lost it. Crazy, crazy crazy.

Seeing such a great player end his career in disgrace truely saddens me.... then I think about the €180 I made by backing Italy at the start, and suddenly I feel so much happier again.

Yeah that was another great piece by Humphries. I doubt the Arc de Triomphe displayed a holigram with 'Merci Zizou' last night. Although it was a fitting way for Fabio Cannavro to end his international career - 100 caps and lifting the World Cup after being the best player throughout the tournament.
Hopefully the Premiership is good this season though, to make up for the lack of quality in the World Cup.

enjoyed the world cup but really saddened by the way it finished...
...the premiership is a step too far for me, though... can't bear it starting so early while i'm still watching my cricket and golf

Again, fair play to gar. united for the premiership, 'brilliant orange' for the fantasy league (though a lot of it depends on whether those italian judges spark off the mother of all transfer summers...)
tom humphries is OK but I prefer paddy agnew (italian correspondent for the irish times, writes beautifully) - and the greatest sports writer of all is con houlihan (greatest living kerryman too). anyone who loves football should also check out david winner's history of modern dutch football 'brilliant orange' (gar, you probably know it), a fabulous book.
no, no hologram of zizou this time around. there's a huge advertising poster of him (for an insurance company) on a building halfway up the champs elysses, and after the france-brazil game a million people on the champs paid homage to this poster - incredible scenes of mass hysteria and fanatical devotion. I'll never forget it (even though I was for italy...)

Aidan, I thought Sean Kelly was the greatest living kerryman? Houlihan is good, as is Agnew (who is doing very well out of this Italian scandal) but Humphries is just unbeatable entertainment. I've read that 'Brilliant Orange' book but it has to be said that there is a real lack of good football books.
Roll on the new season and the fantasy footy.......

"There's only One Red Army" by Eamonn Sweeney is IMO a great read. Its about Sligo Rovers but you don't have to a Rovers fan to enjoy it.

Reading 'Dynamo' by Andy Dougan at the moment.
Kinda like Schindler's Ark with Football. When the Nazis took Kiev, a local gave the Dynamo team (Europes best squad of PreWar players) jobs in his Bakery. They went on to play German army teams throughout the war.
Was reccomended to be by the guy working in H&F, when I bought Kuper's 'Ajax: The Dutch, The War'.

The season is about to kick off so make sure to get your team done up and entered into the Cluas league. It's free and a bit of craic........although I do think that I have it in the bag already!!!
Just visit www.premierleague.com and register your team before joining the Cluas league. Here's the code: 9907-2687

Okay, this is defintely the last time that I will refresh this thread. But the Prem season is about to kick off this weekend (C'mon The Gunners!!!!) and fantasy footy always makes it that bit more exciting. Whether you think Carrick can be the new Keane, Ballack will rack up all the bonus points or Marlon King will save Watford.....put your predictions to the test by choosing your fantasy team. You've got 100 million to splash out on 11 players and four subs.
Go to the website - http://fantasy.premierleague.com - register your details, select a kit, pick a team name and enter the Cluas league. The code is 9907-2687

Hey folks - I know this is an old thread but I thought I might resurrect it seeing as it's almost at the end of the footie season and iwith an eye to ensuring we have another Cluas league for '07/'08 I notice the EP forum has an ongoing FF thread so no reason why we can't have one as well (the slow slow sloooooowwwwness of accessing this forum didn't do it any favours but i think it's improved somewhat in recent weeks) Ok so this season is almost up but next season is only a coupla months away! (said like a true FF junkie) Anyone got any thoughts, comments, etc on the Cluas league?

Never noticed this thread before, and didnt realise there was a Cluas league at all. I added my team into the league and went straight in at Number 7! Respectable enough, but I will aim for the top next season.

nice one diego, 7th's good but you'll have your work cut out toppling the all conquering Cavan Hoors next season (if only the same could be said of our gaelic football team!) it's a funny ole game, finished bottom of my league at work last season but this year it's all gone swimmingly

good stuff, hopefully a few others will join in too, we had about 20 or so last year i've just set up the league now, code is 160462-41323 if anyone wants to join http://fantasy.premierleague.com some of the other music forum FF leagues have pizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd but probably not an option for this league (unless Eoghan wants to contribute a sum for the winner?)

won't be long now, really looking forward to it myself too, both the ff and the real thing shaping up to be a very interesting season with manu, pool and chelsea all splashing the cash d'arse ain't done much dealing but they have RVP back and looking sharp sven looks like he means business and t'will be interesting to see how big sam fares in tyneside would be worried about sunderland's chances of staying up, they need at least one more quality defender aside from mcshane or they're gonna leak goals

chelsea squad in tatters, a sneaky 1-0 win for birmingham perhaps? stranger things have been! sunderland getting gordon might just be the difference between them staying up or going down i fancy derby and probably fulham for the drop, 3rdlast spot will be a real dogfight, could be anyone of birmingham, sunderland, boro, wigan or even bolton or reading reackon the title is manu's to lose and i wouldn't be surprised if pool sneaked in ahead of chelsea to grab 2nd spot considering how much ground chelsea could lose early on with their injury problems d'arse to sneak 4th ahead of spurs with blackburn, toon and everton grabbing the euro spots

what say we spice this up a bit and name our current starting 11 (it's possible you could make several changes between now and saturday morning so you're not giving too much away) As winner of the Cluas league last year, I feel it's my moral duty to show my hand (or most of it) before battle commmences this Saturday At the moment, I'm going with: Friedel Samba / Lescott / Eboue / Scharner Davies / Mendes / Ronaldo / Gamst-Pedersen D Bent / Jerome Might be a coupla changes before Saturday morning but that's gonna be very close to my starting 11 Captaincy, hard to say - Head says Ronaldo but a punt on either MGP or Bent also appeals

I've entered the league and gone straight in at 2nd - how good is that? I will throw my team out there and see if it frightens anyone into quitting before we've begun; Niemi Baines Eboue Dunne Ronaldo Arteta Hleb Petrov Van Persie Berbatov Nugent Subs: Given, Edwards & Halford (Sun), Jagielka I reckon at the start of last season a lot of smaller clubs players shot up the league before the usual suspects started clocking up the points - so it's important to make an educated guess about who is gonna fire from the off. Bet we all wish we had predicted Portsmouths flying start last year.

I'm in. I reckon a lot of people are banking on Sunderland this season - but maybe Derby will make fools of us all? Anyway (subject to late panicking/changing): Reina Dunne - Finnan - Cashley Cole - McShane Ronaldo - Carsley - Miller Rooney - Doyle - Anelka Subs: Gordon, Petrov, Senderos, Huddlestone Was tempted to stick in Kuyt or Torres as a 30-goal man; then copped myself on. But, like every year, I fear I'm placing too much trust in Irish players...

If chelsea play a 4-3-3 and avoid the injury debacle they experienced last year the league is theirs. Not a pleasant thought but then again neither is Man U reasserting their domination of the premier league. I think Sunderland will do pretty well in that they'll beat the drop. I can't really see them doing a reading and qualifying for Europe with some of the signings they've made but hope springs eternal

Hi there, been checking out the site for a while, but this is my debut post! The Premier League fantasy football's pretty engrossing, possibly the next best thing to actually standing at the touchline. Got 47 points from matchweek 1, though not having much luck with strikers. Picked Leroy Lita, Benni McCarthy and Wayne Rooney, which was a disaster. Lita injured himself stretching in bed, McCarthy was knocked unconscious against Middlesbrough and Rooney's out for 2 months! I feel very sorry for whoever I next pick up front, though being a very mean Man U fan I've decided to go for Man City's Bianchi: He'd better be very careful..

Welcome aboard, Shakey - 47 points is good going considering your three strikers had a 'mare of a weekend! I'm a United fan too and I'm reluctantly impressed by Bianchi, so I hope your magic works before the Manchester derby next Sunday...

aye, i'd gladly have taken 47 points for the first week i hadn't just a 'mare up front, twas a 'mare all round with jagielka not playing and lua-lua shipped off to greece instead of playing against derby still, should fare a bit better midweek, should have 10 playing with the outside chance of having all 11 playing if jagielka gets a go vs spurs
