Does anyone think Brakes 'Heard About Your Band' is a ringer for the Frames 'Pavement Tune'? In the spirit of this discovery, can you think of any other instances of possible artistic cogging?

don't know the name of the chappy but saw a video on MTV recently (it got a fair amount of air play) and its a rip off of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice" the video had a few different people on a couch listening to head phones.

Both of them are actually pretty much based on Gary Glitters "Rock and Roll Part 2"

I can see where you're going with this one, theres no doubt that its quite derivative and owes a lot to New Order, but I don't think its a straight rip of one single New Order track. The Flaming Lips getting copying Cat Stevens thing is true, but I believe it was all settled reasonably amicably. Personally I've always found a disturbing similarity between the opening bar of Talking Heads Psycho Killer and the Fraggle Rock theme tune, its just that opening thud-thud-thud drum/bass bit, completely different after that.

One thats been bugging me for a long time is that I'm convinced that the bass line used for most of The Chemical Brothers "Denmark" definitely a straight rip from a section Dirty Beatniks "Disco Dancing Machines" (the bit where he's singing "you're thing is my thing, it always pulls me in"), but thats not really suprising given the similar nature of both bands and its a pretty simple, but effective bass line. Someone is bound to stumble across it every now and then and probably not realise its been done before.

Every song on simple kids album is a rip off, especially breakups/breakdowns which nicks the riff from pavements carrot rope, i actually thought it was a covers album, but apparently its not

Amazed this one isn't cited more often (given the legendary status of the artists).... Van Morrison's Almost Independence Day and Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. (And Van got in there three years before the Floyd, for the record).

eh.. other than the name, no. They do use some similar chords, Em and C but in nowhere near the same order (OLGA is great init?). Killing moon is a squillion times better too

Amen to that Bino. The opening licks of Killing Moon still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up 20 years on.

I put a question mark to it cause I've heard some poeople say that before although never too sure myself. Anyway, agree about the Killing Moon being a miles better.

Funny that, cause for some reason that Secret Machines tune reminds me of the Strokes. Nevertheless, I think it's a cracking tune. Don't know The Rakes one.

The new Gorillaz tune 'Feel Good Inc' sounds like both 'Staring at the sun' by U2 (chorus) and 'Its Like That' by Run Dmc (verse)

Adult. "Skinlike" has a melody thats very similar to Flock of Seagulls "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)", the rest of the track is typically Adult. though.
