Haven't bought any live bootleg CDs for a while, but I decided to buy a bootleg of the Bruce Springsteen gig at the RDS in May and confidently strolled into a well known second hand CD shop on the quays which always had a great selection of live bootlegs. To my astonishment I was told that they can't sell them any more as new legislation has been passed which outlaws the sale of bootlegs. WHAT THE F**K ? Live bootlegs were always illegal but the cops used to turn a blind eye to them....anyone know what happened ???

Probably was the Recording Industry people. I remember working in a shop maybe 15 years ago which sold car radios - apparently you were supposed to have a license play music on them as it was a commercial enterprise. I suspect they just cold called the various shops and told them to desist or face action.

Was never really in to buying 'live' stuff as such, the quality is usully so bad you never listen to it again...though i do remember going in to town on a Saturday when I was a nipper to buy some bootlegged cassette tapes off the dude beside the Molly Malone statue - you could get 2 for a fiver i think, and they had really badly photocopied artwork...ahh memories.
