What exactly was wrong with calling it the Temple Bar Music Centre ? It did exactly what it said on the tin. Or perhaps that name wasn't trendy enough ?

They better not come up with some poncey new name for the revamped Whelans.

Gah.. it sounds like a kid's TV show.. the other title that they were going to go with, 'Cargo' was almost as bad. What's wrong with keeping 'Temple Bar Music Centre' indeed?

I liked the Music Centre too, if it ain't broke etc. They have already advertised loads of gigs as Cargo, but apparently the Cargo in London contacted them and are not letting them use the name.

It would seem many years ago, the building was a button factory, hence the new name.

If it was just a studio, then I guess it would kind of work. You know, buttons... mixing desk.... A factory where music is made etc. But it doesn't really work for a venue/studio. Are they copying the Knitting Factory in New York?

Its not bad, I guess. But the quaint name doesn't really match the surroundings. Temple Bar is about as quaint and homey as a burning swastika.

The Music Centre was fine, its a music venue with practice rooms and a studio, hence a music centre....its in temple bar,, hence the temple bar bit...

    Jeebus i dunno....the button factory?

are folks not going to just keep referring to it as the music centre anway?

suppose though, it wasnt long ago that the tripod complex was the red box, pod and chocolate bar!!

Left out the word 'still'.... What I meant to say was 'From what I have heard it still to be called 'Cargo'... From an, er, insider I was talking to last night. But he may still be wrong.

I think a name change for the Music Centre is an AWFUL idea - ya, Tripod got away with it nicely, but it WAS called the Pod before that, so it worked well. Cargo/Schmargo/Butthole Factory - whatever, they're all terrible names. The website says they're looking for suggestions to be mailed to them - anyone got any ideas?

jesus... is this for real or are people just winding us up?... the button factory?!!!

possibly one of the worst names i've ever heard for a venue... especially one that had established itself as a serious live music venue.

it would actually be embarressing to say you played there... i know i'll be sticking to saying i played in the templebar music centre, not the fcking button factory... sounds like a cadbury's sponsored creche!

Edit: i'm not gonna bother givin out about this dude, whatever he likes.

threads like this are kinda mean though, especially because he wouldn't like people treating his band the same.

OK so you're taking issue with the guy for stating his opinion on stuff people have put in the public domain? Sorry, but that just seems childish, interestingly, the Deni username has only been created recently and al your posts are purely to respond to this perceived wrong?

Maybe he's relentlessly harsh, maybe he's got an agenda, and yes, is likely starbelgrade, who knows? The thing anyone putting their work out in the public domain has to expect is criticism, fair or otherwise.

    Welcome to the real world.

    whatever dude.

i'm just saying he wouldn't have slagged off hotpress, for example, from his star belgrade account. or the TBMC on this thread.
and yes, quite obviously my username was started because of this guff.

Its equally real world to spot a dude taking potshots at magazines and people and venues he's got issues with and call him on it.

    anyway, i won't go on.

I agree with Binokular, it should be called Egbert.

The Button Factory is a cutesy name, not quite fitting, but really...does it matter what the place is called?

Just thought I should bring it back...

Man, you seriously need to get a life.. trawling thru the forums to pull up s**te which I never saw, let alone wrote. Believe what ya like - I honestly couldn't give a f**k.. I've no problem expressing my opinions when asked for them - but I don't see the point in knocking other bands.. if I think they're s**te, so f**king what? I think 99% of bands are s**te, but it won't stop them making music - which, in my girlfriend's opinion, is a very good thing!

As for having issues with the TBMC & Hot Press... seriously dude, lay off the weed.. it's making you paranoid. I've no truck with Hot Press.. our drummer reckons they only sell copies to band members looking to see if they've got a mention(!), but as I read it, I can't really say anything!

As for the TBMC... We've played the music centre 4 times now & we'll be back there in October. I f**king love the venue.. it's the only one of it's size with a proper size stage for a start & secondly, it's the only Dublin venue that ever contacted us & asked US to play there (as opposed to most who we've had to contact). We've also used one of their house engineers for other live shows we've done & paid him for his services. If I'd any issues with the place, I wouldn't be going back there & I definitely wouldn't hire their engineer, OR in fact, use a fake profile to comment on them - if I got sommat to say, I f**king well say it... unlike some saddos who invent profiles to express themselves.

As I said earlier in this thread "The Button Factory.... wtf?!?!?!?! We're playing there in October.. I'm nearly embarassed to say it now!!"

Starbelgrade. If you're not JamesT and I am not saying you are, then he works in the same office or shares the same house/dorm or frequents the same internet cafe.

Look, if someone is posting under multiple identities, then I don't really care. It's a bit stupid and pointless, but whatcha gonna do? It's the internet after all, you come to expect this. I mean guess what, my real name isn't Binokular! Whoah! Can you like trust anyone?

Either way, I don't want to here any more about this from either side.

I never said i didn't know the dude (!)... and I know ya didn't want to hear any more on the subject, but I had to express my abject disgust at the fact that Binokular is not really your name. I've lost all respect for you now, but I might nick it - I've been looking for a name to use for a musical side project I'm working on & "Binokular" is rather cool! Cheers duckie!

Feel free to nick "Binokular", I nicked it from someone else, it's the name of an EP put out by Schneider TM and KPT Michi.gan - the one with that smiths cover version on it.

So back to the Button Factory... Was anyone else at the launch last night? Its gotta be said, the place looks amazing. They've gone all out, its really plush and dark, clean but sexy. Plus alot of carpets. Therefore, its not gonna age well! The Flaws were good, the PA is great at last.

yeah, the place looks really nice. Weird though, was so used to how it used to be. They're definately going to have to take up those carpets. Within a few weeks they'll be stinking.
