This thread is an opportunity for MCD to respond to the aggrieved public... I know for a fact that MCD staff read this message board but i doubt very much that we will get a response but here goes anyway... Why, MCD, are so many of your gigs so much more expensive than those of other major promoters in our neighbouring countries? (e.g Badly Drawn Boy tickets being twice as expensive as they were in Holland.)

hey papa just to be fair... as per my comment in topic "priceless" - i did in fact receive a reply to my query - so at least MCD are paying attention... there were some valid reasons given, and it was interesting to note that each artists signs off the ticket valuation for each gig (or at least management does)... as i say, some valid reasons were given - eg. gigs where an artist is trying to "break" the market will be cheaper than ones where the artist is established - venue hiring costs, insurance etc. bottomline is they will charge whatever the market will bear... the crude face of economics i guess - but hey, its up to us to decide what the market will hold - a few half-full olympia's would therefore tend to halt the spiral... think about it and decide for yourselves... www.soundweb.ie

mcd sez "prince in london is 65 stirling plus bk fee, that is 100 euro plus bk fee dublin is 70 euro." (almost a sentence) "ryan adams in london is 20stirling plus bk fee dublin is the same" niall@mcd.ie short and sweet..

i might be wrong but i dont think its up to johnsoundweb to speak up on their behalf. where's the explanation from the people that matter? but yes maybe we will have to boycott the overpriced gigs for them to care. but for that to work the word will have to be spread!

its easy to say that peple should boycott but as individuals, each person has very little power. mcd are aware of this and will charge accordingly. this is crude economics but that doesnt make it fair, of course they are not in the business or being fair you might say, which is an accurate but self evident statement. as such the point is how they can justify their prices? doing it because they are able to do it is hardly justification. asking them to try and justify their prices is a fair question. one very interesting point if its true is that the management company sign off on it? responsibilty is not just with MCD

thats one old thread! its not management who sign off on it but the band's agent, the person who looks after booking gigs and tours. most of these, though, are in the promoter's pocket. the reason why MCD have been so successful in ireland is really down to how they have managed to get on side with almost every UK agent of note in the last 10 years. its why no-one else has been able to muscle in on their business - the agents know and trust MCD and will keep working with them. of course, there is a chain (agent to manager to band) but i would say that most visiting acts are not overly concerned about irish ticket prices. there may be some exceptions but the bulk of them want to get in, do the gig and get out again. as for prices, in case u havent noticed, Ireland IS a very expensive place!! ticket prices are high because insurance costs, production costs, living costs, hotel costs, food costs and transport costs are higher than in other places. its the price u have to pay for living in a booming economy. u should move. i hear turkey is good.
