Don't know whether this thread is mostly about new bands/albums but here goes.... I've no idea how popular David Bryne is or not as a solo artist, but I thought I'd mention this epononymous album which I think is overlooked by a lot of people. Certainly I've never encountered any one else with a copy (maybe I move in the wrong circles? ;-) . I think I picked it up in a sale somewhere years ago (Anyone remember Our Price in the Square, Tallaght?) and listened to it a few times before putting it in a box and forgetting about it (More CDs than space). However when I took it back out a year or 2 ago, I was amazed by it and it's gone on to become one of my favorite albums of all time. There's a strong world music influence in it with lots of really cool rhythms and the playing is amazing throughout. And it rocks. Something quite apocylptic about some of the songs. Consistently good lyrics too, one of the strongest being Momma she had complications There's nothing very strange about that Nuns said "We can't kill that baby We'll have to let your mother die" If you see it on sale, get it. Be aware it's a grower (hence its 5 years in a box experience with me) Have a good week(end)

I've got a later album of his called 'Look Into The Eyeball' - a lovely album of catchy pop songs (especially 'The Great Intoxication': what a sweet song!) flavoured with little sounds from Luaka Bop (his record label) world music artists.

I also saw him on Jules Holland's show a year or two ago performing tracks from his then-new album - just as good.
