Since its coming up to xmas, and more money comes into hand, does anyone have any good tips on new acts? What shows are not to be missed? What Eps-Albums should be picked up? Or even any big releases from mainstream artists to watch out for?

im mad looking for more sean tyrell stuff, if you dont own belladonna but consider yourself a fan of the singer songwriter genre thing then hang your head in shame and get it right now and if you still have respect for the other singer writers of the land then you have bricks for brains! just kidding, but it is very very very very good. four verys. thats saying something.

You should be able to find the Soviet Filter's EP in Road and Tower. I'd be remiss if I didn't pimp the Wrens as well. Gravenhurst's mini EP is worth getting as well.

Gotta second Alcopop with his choice of Postal Service. Their album 'Give up' is one of the best I've come across this year. A gem. With some utterly brilliant lyrics. eoghan

(new, well i think it's out about 6 months) along the lines of the la's and the kinks. recorded in toe rag, so it's got that live 'old ' sound to it ye know. go and buy buy buy!!!!

Engineers 'Folly': Brilliant 6-track mini album. A welcome return to the Big Music infused with the ghost of Kevin Shields. Ray Lamontagne 'Trouble': Saw this guy on Later a couple of weeks back. In a word: mindblowing. When people first heard and saw Bob Dylan, THIS must have been what it felt like. He's 31, chronically shy and has only now found the confidence to perform in front of people. It's been worth the wait.Note to the Whelans lock-in crowd: this is how it is meant to be done..... Interpol: 'Antics' Gets better with every listen. Richmond Fontaine: 'Post To Wire' Americana doesn't get any better than this. American Music Club: 'Love Songs For Patriots' NOTHING is better than this!!!!

Cheers for all the recommendations. I've noted a few down and when I get some cash together I'll hunt them down.

Actually, it doesn't get any worse. For real Americana - Willard Grant Conspiracy's greatest hits.

Gotta disagree with Klootfan on The Constantines - an album so bad I had to take it off my iPod for fear of the random track selection picking any of their songs from 8 days of music.
