Leya are Belfast based alright! The guys are from a few different places (Derry, Donegal, Down) but all met and have lived there for quite a few years now! Hammy the drummer is from Belfast! Have got to know them recently and quite a motley crew they are too!

The main bands in galway are Toasted Heretic, Charis, Cane 141, Lucas, Cuckoo Savante, Mirakil Whip, The Ghostwood Project and Vamos. There's also seems to be a pretty healthy punk/metal scene although I'm not really that clued up about it to be honest. The main movers and shakers seem to be the New Noise Music Collective and bands like Fuktifino and The Boy You Hit Is Dead. One Galway band you'll probably be hearing a lot more about is the Dirty Sweets. They only played a handful of gigs together before the lead singer went off on Erasmus and two other band memebers went traveling to Australia. Before they left they recorded a short demo for an IMRO Showcase. Alison Curtis heard this recording and declared it the best demo she'd heard all year. She passed it on to Leagues O Toole and Tom Dunne who both played it on Today FM. Then a fortnight ago the band became Pet Sounds' featured band of the week and they've been contacted by Fierce Panda and Rough Trade records. Both labels wanted info about their next gig so that they could send representatives to check out the band. Not suprisingly the band hope to cut their Australian adventure short in December and get back together.
