| | Maybe this is old news but according to the 2FM website Jenny Houston has lost her old slot. Her show the Waiting Room used to go out four nights a week. I think her old time slot was 10.00-12.00. Now she's been pushed back to three nights a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and her show has been re-schedualed to the 12.00-2.00 slot. As a result Dan Hegarty has lost a couple of gigs and his show will now be broadcast at 12.00-2.00 on Sundays, Fridays and Mondays. Also it looks like his hopelessly outdated funk/soul/hip-hop/big-beat show has been axed as well.
So have 2FM lost fate in indie music?
Did they have to re-shuffle the pack when they took Marty Whelan on board for their breakfast show?
Or are they afraid that one of these presenters is going to bugger off to Phantom? | | | |

| | The major problem with 2FM is the fact that they're a national radio station for a nation that doesn't have an identity, so they try to be everything to everybody. Marty is a fine broadcaster but he should be on Radio One. Because of this, the admittedly awful pair he's replacing are being re-distributed. When this kinda stuff happens, indie DJ's always get messed around.
As with the Ticket article, 2FM is a shambles. They have not recovered from moving Dave Fannings slot and that disastrous Dance Orientation. | |

I think the main problem with Jenny's show is that her defintion of alternative music is just too narrow. All she plays is guitar driven indie rock from the 90s and 00's. She never plays any electronica or hip hop. I don't think she plays much bad music, I just find her show very repetitive. Still I'd rather have the option of listening to both her and Dan Hegarty in the one night than simply one of them and Rick O Shea.

Jenny Huston plays in the main good stuff (bar the NME approved music that gets in there on occasion) but much of it is too similar, if that's her thing I can't really criticise, she's into what she's into. If I was in the car at night I used to flick between her and the repeat of Dunphy's show to keep me from falling asleep but with her up against Donal Dineen it'll be a long long time before I hear her pleasant Canadian accent again. | | | |

Usually when I meet Canadians I can't help myself, I have to work in the phrase "whats all that aboot eh?". Christ, I even sorta did it in my Martha Wanwright interview.
