With regards to the Notwist one of the members Martin Gretschmann releases stuff under the name Console. He did a single a few years ago called 14 Zero Zero and it's one of my favourite electronic tunes ever. | | | |

yea I def like the new album .... def a progression as you said yourself - i hate to use the 'more mature' catchphrase but its pretty true in this case. They played in what was then HQ (what is now Spirit) in Dublin in May 2002. Absolutely fabulous gig. We're overdue an album from them. That collaboration is called 13 & God and it;'s on Alien Transistor/.Anticon | | | |

| | Oh yea I picked up some anticon stuff in road records the other day. i was listening to some other stuff aswell by the guy from the Nowtwist and some other heads. Not too into it tho - it was more light drum and bass-esque with rap vocals and not entirely my thing. Cant rememeber what it was called tho. Whereas Neon Golden...well... what an album. | | | |

| | yeah was gonna mention gomez, but then i had seecond thoughts. They are very good, but they did get a lot of attention when they came out first and then kinda just faded off the radar. So maybe they just never really built on the initial hype instead of being under rated. Bring It On is a good album though (gonna stick it on now) | | | |

2 under-rated acts I love are the magnetic fields and jonathan richman; both have healthy cult-followings based on word of mouth but nothing like the popularity they deserve....
...'69 love songs' by the magnetic fields is full of incredibly catchy radio-friendly pop just waiting to be brought to the top of the charts in cover versions. the 6ths, the side project of the magnetic fields, have also made 2 great albums, especially 'hyacinths and thistles' which is especially wonderful.
jonathan richman is just the coolest; apart from his early 70s punk-ish stuff his 1998 album 'I'm so confused' is full of fantastic catchy tunes.
so, anyone into guitar pop should check those 3 albums out, three certain 10-out-of-10 classics; I envy anyone about to discover them for themselves....

| | A massively under-rated band has to The Redneck Manifesto. Three great albums and they have always been on top form when I catch them live. Defintely a band who deserve more recognition on a national and international scale.
I'd also echo Aidan's tip for Jonathan Richman. I have two of his albums and the soundtrack to 'There's Something About Mary' but I was never blown away by him - just overly impressed. Then I saw him play in New York in June and it was one of the most enjoyable gigs I ever attended. He has a charisma that is very rare in songwriters and is funnier than a ton of comedians I have sadly witnnessed. | | | |

| | Seeing as Cluas just included a review of their last album, I really like Rilo Kiley. She has a really nice voice with shades of Joni Mitchell and Nancy Sinatra. Bought their 1st album on the strength of this one and I really like that one as well. | | | |

....was just thinking about the boo radleys - they were unfortunate to release their one true pop record right at the time of britpop and get tarred with that brush... where in reality, they were tremendous experimental type indie-rockers - kinda like a british deus in that way.... so under rated - yeah, definitely | | | |
