....saw this on the NME website and I'm not sure if the concept is a good one or a bad one.... THE LEMONHEADS and GANG OF FOUR are to join the likes of THE STOOGES and BELLE AND SEBASTIAN by taking part in a unique season of gigs this autumn Presented in association with NME’s sister magazine Uncut, ‘Don’t Look Back’ will see a selection of veteran artists revisit a classic work, played on the night in its entirety. The shows will take place in various venues across London from August to October, and additional dates will be announced in the coming months. The Lemonheads play ’It’s A Shame About Ray’ at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on September 15. The Stooges will play ‘Fun House’ at the Hammersmith Apollo on August 30. September 16 sees Mudhoney play ‘Superfuzz Bigmuff’ plus a selection of early singles at Koko. The following day, Mum/Cat Power play ‘Finally We Are No-One’ and ‘The Covers Album’ at The Barbican. On September 21 at Koko, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion play ’Orange’. Gang Of Four run through ’Entertainment’ at the Barbican on September 24. September 25 sees Belle And Sebastian run through ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ at the Barbican. This show has sold out. And finally, Dirty Three and Sophia play ‘Ocean Songs’ and ‘The Infinite Circle’ at The Barbican on October 5.

Yea heard about the then tentative plans for that a while ago.. I'm in the process of arranging my trip over to see Gang of four actually - running through the entirity of Entertainment!!!! I've been salivating since I first heard! I think its a cool idea actully - but you'll have to be a real fan of the bands involved for sure cause it aint like they'll be running through the 'greatest hits' or whatever. Wouldnt mind checkin out Cat Power too and the fab Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (I thought they were now just called the Blues Xplosion...)and a few others. Pity its spread across such a large time frame cause I'd be well up for seeing a lot more if they were placed closer together.

It's an interesting question. Obviously the quality of the performances will hinge on the degree to which the works will be re-invented, which raises the healthy prospect of some fans' sacred cows being slaughtered. In a different discipline, jazz for example (where reinvention is usually key), such a series of concerts would be wholeheartedly welcomed, I'd imagine.

Saw Gang Of Four in January and they were incredible. They played nearly all of Entertainment. I don't think you will be disappointed as they have had loads of gigs since then. Mudhoney are doing a gig here in September after this ATP night, so maybe someone will bring over Gang Of Four.

Múm are preforming "Yesterday Was Dramatic - Today is OK" and how are they veterans?
