| | Archie, actually, "Galvanise" does "hit" me straight away in the way Chemical Brothers tracks usually do. it's the usual swaggering in your face Chemical Brothers thing with a few nice touches, that ever so slightly arabic sounding string synth line, the Afrika Bambataa influenced vocal breakdown and of course Q-Tips rapping. Its also catchy as hell too. It's great, I just don't think its quite up with their best and that naturally is disappointing and thus probably prevents me from viewing the track objectively. Roll on the new album, hopefully it will be the promised "return to form". I get the impression your just not a Chems fan Archie?

| | Fair enough, I reckon if you don't get em straight away, you probably never will. Personally, they are one of my all time favourite bands. It's bass-bin-kick-in-the-gut, frontal-cerebral-lobe-optional kind of music, you generally don't have to think about it too hard. However if I were to try and explain the appeal, I'd say the basic ingredients of the Chems are Public Enemy beats, My Bloody Valentine noise, Bootsy Collins bass, acid house energy, a dose of rock "song" structure, psychedelia and a healthy chunk of New Order influence to boot if that makes any sense, which it probably doesn't. As pitchforkmedia (them again), would put it "Zoop zoop. Beepbeep. Doopdoop. "Back with anothaone-a those block rockin' beats!" Doopdoop. A- weee- aweeee- aweee- aweee. Doopdoop. A- weee- aweee- aweee- aweee" and so on.. | | | |

Haven't heard it I'm afraid. Though I did like that one they had out recently "The love of Richard Nixon". When I heard it, I thought "this can't be manics, its actually good, and it's catchy and upbeat sounding too, damn it, this is practically a pop record". Probably the best tune they've done since "Motorcycle Emptiness". Not in my faves of the year but still good
