Yo Booyiie ! I went late to RCHP and caught the main event + second half of Pixies. What were the supports like - thrills / flowers / armada ? Answers on a postcard y'all

i was late enough too so i'm not sure about the other supports, but i feel compelled to comment that the beer situation was crazy, 30 minutes is too long,

To be honest, i was only really interested in the pixies. So I went just in time to catch their set and left shortly after. Yes, I hear you say, 60 Euro for one band. And my answer to that is damn right. The Pixies!!! Anyway, id seen the RHCP twice before and i havent much interest in their new stuff. I really enjoyed the pixes set but this was despite the fact that the venue has to be the worst ive ever been at. 30 Min queues for pints. The positioning of the stage. Why in the name of god was it not at the end of the hill. The price of t-shirts. 30 Euro. The sound. Pretty bad at times. Especially those dodgy speakers at the back. It would take a pretty special gig to get me to go there again. It was quite interesting to see the amount of people who had no interest in the RHCP. A heavy stream of people leaving as I was leaving.

Yep, I'm another one who went just for the Pixies. Unlike all you other lazy baards though I suffered through ALL the crap supports first as I wanted to get a pit band. Dunnot about any 30 minute beer queues, I had no problem getting drink, but then as I said I was there all day so by the time Frank Black and co. appeared I was well loaded anyway. Getting to and from the site was a fcking nightmare as well. And they had the most retarded pit band system I've ever seen, and I'm no spring chicken. There were two pits. Pit One filled up by 12.30. Pit Two was a lot bigger. Now instead of giving you a pit band as you enter the pit, some fking genius came up with the brilliant idea of waiting until the pit was full until giving out passes. This took about two hours. Needless to say confusion reigned. Why does EVERYTHING in this country have to be so fking complicated ?

Yeah yeah I was there too, unfortunatley I mssed Groove Armada which was the only other good reason for going to see The Pixies, bloody hell what was it it? A 2 Mile walk from Park Gate Street??? I was dissapointed at the t-shirts aswell and the beer queues, well they were grand if you were up at the smaller bar to the left and behind the stage. The Thrills were ok for a sort of lie on the grass and smoke it kind of way - having a beer, nice. The Pixies blew the place away and then the RHCP came on and I stayed for 1 song, I was being fair and wanted to give them a chance, I was going to stay for 4 but I got bored very quickly, and as I was listening to them on the way out they didn't sound great, but ah well, got the pub in fine time!!

my worst fears confirmed, judging by the comments above. some gigs just get lost in the sheer scale kno'wharra'mean? reminds me of the mastercard ads: -ticket to gig: € 65 -band t-shirt: € 30 -beer & refreshments: € 50-100 depending on time spent queueing -seeing the RHCP / Pixies in an environment where half the crowd couldnt be arsed listening to the band you came to see: VERY F&@&ING ANNOYING! you could get a week in spain for the same cost too. or am i just a big moan? :-P

Didn't go myself, not that I couldn't get tickets, just seemed too much hassle to be honest. Yes I am lazy. Just read on Pitchforkmedia that the Pixies have recorded a new song called "Bam Thwok", their first in 12 years. I believe they play it live in their set. Great, except that its only available exclusively on Apples iTunes music store which isn't available in Europe (at least officially). It may surface eventually on CD (new album?), but for now its digital download only. Perhaps theres a live bootleg recording of it floating round somwhere, not that the responsible folk of Cluas would advocate such legally dubious recordings or anything.
