Was at the Premiere of Glen Hansards 'new' movie 'Once' last night. I have to say I found it one of the most enjoyable and charming movies I've seen. For those who don;t know much about it, Glen plays a down at heel busker who strikes up a friendship with an immigrant girl who sells flowers on Grafton St. What unfolds then is a touching and often funny tale of two people, two cities and a load of music.

I was surprised, but I guess I shouldn't of been, at the amount of Frames music used in the film and indeed the amount of music in general. It really played out like a musical, albeit an urban musical. The scene where his band (made up of a Lizzy tribute act) crack into 'When your Minds made up' in the studio they've hired, is unbelievable and then when it's reprised on Dollymount Strand...

All in all, a really good Irish indie, but with a universal appeal unlike most others... Anyone else see it?

was at the premier too - really loved the film. Some mind find it a bit of a love in of Hansard's music, but the studio scene with 'When Your Mind's Made Up' is absolutely spine-tingling

I refuse to believe that anything Hansard does could be described as spine tingling.

I have an inate, irrational dislike for Hansard and could never sit down and watch him pretend to be a s**t annoying musician

It's quite easy to forget that it's Glen, that the songs are real and that they can't really act. It plays out like a movie, like fiction. Then you can seperate the 'real' Glen from the movie and enjoy it as a story..

It's Glen, playing Glen by not playing Glen

If it was a david lynch film it would be kyle mclaughlan playing glen as a sinister midget who talks backwards with an elvis accent dressed as a rabbit who has an oxygen mask and wears a snake skin leather jacket as a symbol of his individuality and belief in a personal freedom and may or may not be from another planet or the fbi

Looking forward to seeing it alright. He (Glen Hansard) is one of Irelamd's great all rounders.
