Wait now, I did get a book of the 1000 best albums. Havent had a chance too give it a browse yet though.
So, anyone else get a nice album, music related book ?

| Got none myself but got my sister the Go! Team's album and the mother Rod Stewarts Greatest Hits (I was faced with a difficult decision on which of ol' Rods Greatest Hits album to get and in the end, shamelessly, I got the cheapest).
Both have been in regular play since Christmas Day making them two of the most 'successful' xmas presents I've ever given. They beat that tea cosy I got the mother last year anyhow | | | |

| That was weird, lost post in the middle of writing it. Screen just seemed to refresh itself. Perhaps a rogue shortcut key. Anyone else seen this?
It was a good Christmas for music presents: I got Neko Case's Fox Confessor Brings the Flood and it's great: soaring vocal harmonies and great musicianship, with contributions from members of Calexico. She has a wonderful voice. Old country vibe to a lot of the album, lashings of reverb....
I also got Nina Nastasia's Run to Ruin but I've hardly listened to it yet. Not the most Christmassy of albums, you understand.
And Frisell/Carter/Motian which is growing on me. Some jazz standards and reworkings of Americana like You are my sunshine and I'm so lonesome I could cry. Bill Frisell is one of my favorite guitarists. | | | |

And rightly so!
Got a fab set of Bose in-ear headphones and am enchanted by them. Great with the iPod and had me singing at the top of my voice over Christmas. Advantage is that i can't hear my own voice!

| I got 'redemption song', the recent biography of joe strummer by chris salewicz - I had a quick flick through it (to look for an incident that I plan to write an article about) and it seemed like a fairly uncritical and gushy book, in keeping with the lame title. has anyone here read it yet?

| first time in years i haven tgotten any cd's or anything for christmas. Had to buy myself a bob marley dvd, saw the first track the other night and it looked a bit bogey so here's hoping the rest aint bad.

| | Speaking of Bob Marley, i saw a pretty fine rendition of "Stir It Up" on BBC2 (Grey Whistle Test performance). Now Marley's songs are wholly absorbed by the musical cultural ether that surrounds us but it was a fresh, funky take on a well established song. Always nice. | | | |

city discs probably, across from TBMC
there's a couple of 2nd hand stores in Temple bar too, and a couple more on wicklow st, past tower recs
and Road has both new and old vinyl
