    lol @ aidan :D ... yeah c'mon who's the joker that voted Kasabian, stand up.

    Overall though it's probably one of the best and most balanced Cluas year end lists ever. Don't agree with all the entries obviously, but I can respect it.

    To be honest the poll looks really good. And it is balanced in my opinion. I enjoyed the Kasabian record, ok not rocket science but fun nonetheless..there I have said it :) Preparing to be villified!!....

    By the same token I loved Hospice too, Thought Duckworth Lewis Method deserved praise too.

    To me, this is an excellent point of reference now over Christmas to catch up and listen to some of the entries that I haven't heard.

    And ermmmm Lily Allen Binokular?????

    All in all a great list, probably the most balanced you'll find. Certainly more so when standing next to the usual big label crap that dominates said Q magazine and its ilk....

    Fever Ray and Grizzly Bear are top of the list for me to go and take a listen to anyway!

    Wan't me guv, I didn't even vote, can't stand her, and in not voting I know I have no leg to stand on in complaining but......Lily Allen in and no sign Little Boots??? Pop music, you're doing it wrong!!! :D

    I didn't even notice Lily Allen was in the list! Paryon (respect) has stood up for Kasabian (disrespect) - now let's see someone do likewise for Lily! And for the U2 album too - one half-decent track floating on a polluted sea of male-menopausal mediocrity.

    That's an excellent point about lists being a good reference point for catching up - I'll admit that there are some on the list I either skimmed over quickly (Fever Ray *hangs head in shame*) or didn't listen to at all (Valerie Francis, getting great notices every time I see her name in the press).

    The U2 album was not brilliant, but I honestly preferred it to the last one (probably not a good marker), 50% of it was pretty good I thought, the other 50% absolute rubbish......ok....they are my guilty pleasures/confessions for the year......I know 99% of folks will disagree but sure thats what makes the world go round....

    Valerie Francis? Yep have heard her on the radio a number of times, impressive.

    Best thing about the Cluas poll is that with the internet, sometimes I feel there is music/info overload. Alot can get overlooked and this is a good marker for me to find nuggets....

    Jan - you are absolutely right. 'See saw' was released in 2008. My bad - I should have picked that up before now. I've updated the top 40 accordingly, meaning Mark Eitzel's 'Klamath' now creeps into the top 40.

    No Line on the Horizon didn't overly impress me (a hardcore U2 fan) on first listens, but after hearing the songs live I'm now loving it. Roll on the Stade de France gig next year which I have tickets for....

    Your "Q readers"? I'll be one of those (says he whose hands dinnay touch a copy of said magazine in years). Yeah, I'm one of the 2 writers who voted for the U2 album. Yes, it was towards the rear end of my preferences but more than half the tracks stand up to scrutiny me says. Yes, the less said about "Get off your boots" the better (although live it does have some, er, legs). But there are some real tunes on there. "Breathe", for example, took a while but it's now one of my fave tracks of the year (and a daring first song to kick off a live set, it never having been released as a single).

    I'll give you 'Magnificent' but the rest is underwritten and lazy. My theory is that each new U2 album only exists to make its predecessor look better. 'No Tunes On The Horizon' had me thinking 'you know, maybe I was harsh on 'How To Dismantle An Awful Title' - next year's album will probably make me think the same about 'No Tunes...'

    John Doe, I think I'll be at that Stade de France gig too (for all my talk above).
