Never really got into these before, but loving the new record. Anyone else got it? Or recommend a particular early album? There's a really good interview with Mark Linkous in The Guardian today too.

Have all their/his stuff: can't go wrong with any their previous albums really. Debut 'Viva......' is an amazingly accomplished calling card, though a particular favourite of mine is follow-up 'Good Morning, Spider','It's A Wonderful Life' is great too if a little more downbeat to their other stuff. Buying the newie very soon!...Whelans on the 15th!!!

Got the distorted Ghost EP a while back there's a class mashing of Happy Man and Pig from Good Morning Spider. He only went and called it Happy Pig, good stuff. Can't wait for Whelans, saw him in 2 different set-ups over the last few years, the first in Whelan's, great gig then again in the Olympia which was really well put together with films projected on the stage but I still think the Whelans gig had the edge. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait.!!! (Also, have a look around for Sparklehorse and Thom Yorke doing a cover of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, eerie!!!)

Last album wasn't as loveable as the previous two, but it's use of Nina Peerson from the Cardigans was particulary nice. It's gonna be a cracker of a gig...

One of the most beautiful cover versions I know. Linkous' vocal on that melts my heart.

Got the 'It's a wonderful life' album a few days ago and I must say that after one listen it bodes much promise. What would others say is their best?

Yeah, 'It's a Wonderful life' is a beautiful album and yes, a real grower. Very hard to pick their best, he hasn't written a bad album, ridiculously talented.

I'm a big fan of the Tom Waits (would you call it a duet?) on It's a wonderful life......growling!!! I'd say Good Morning Spider is still my favourite though, Happy Man is just such a great song "If I had more, more would be laid at your feet" QUALITY!!!

Not mad about the new one really. Kinda Sparklehorse-by-numbers. Good Morning Spider definitely his best work. The 'Fear Yourself' album he did with Daniel Johnston is great too.

Another vote for Good Morning Spider. The Whelans gig he/they played back when that was released (1999?) was one of my favourite gigs of all time. Hushed awe at the quiet parts, crazy jumping at the loud parts. I've seen Sparklehorse around 4 times since then and they've never quite lived up. Annoyed that they are playing on the one weekend when there is about a million good gigs on! Can't go Sunday, Saturday sold out...

The new album is an absolute gem. Bought it last Saturday and it just gets better with every listen.I don't think there's a weak track on the whole album. Roll on Sunday the 15th....!
