reads like a standard preview piece to me. most of them all read the same anyway - list of acts, reasons why acts are allegedly any good etc. it reads like the preview in today's Irish times, today's Irish independent and today's evening herald probably. its the reviews which are always worth reading
anyone else hear that theres loads of freebies available for Sonic Youth in marlay park tonight?

haven't seen the hot press piece you're referring to, but in fairness to anna her article seemed a reasonable preview picking out acts she wants to highlight. I don't see why she would recycle press releases, which is what you seem to be suggesting.

| | okay, firstly im not trying to call anna's integrity into question, the question was more general than that..i just feel that it's not something that is particularly needed on the site..mcd have advertising out there, everyone else is doing previews too,it serves no purpose, which leads me to conclude that its been done in order to keep on right side of mcd as it were..one more thing, does the totally erratic (and frankly weird)franz ferdinand, maroon 5,scissor sisters line up not deserve to be queried?just puttin these ideas out there.. | | | |

| | Brit award winners Scissor Sisters, with their cheeky glam image and hard-edged and delicious decadence, have wowed the world and are set to do the same to Irish fans. Unequalled in energy and world-renowned for their exciting performances, Meteor Award winners Franz Ferdinand have already made their mark with their unique rhythms, whirlwind song structures and fashionable metro-sexuality.
Does anyone else believe this? Defo a press release rehash. Cheeky glam image? :lol

| | Nothing wrong with recycling press releases (if that indeed is whats been done), its a standard journo thing, funny how it only seems to cause a stir in the music press, open any the news pages in any special interest magazine like this weeks "Autocar" or "What HiFi" (even the news section of the esteemed Pitchforkmedia damnit) and you will notice that much of the news section is basically derived from press releases. Cluas doesn't really had a news section so maybe a preview looks out of place there and a bit jarring to the reader as a result? | | | |

| | What's a whirlwind song structure? Breezy and rotating? A verse-chorus combo to tear your roof off? | | | |

| | Everyone recycles press releases. Just expect something a little different from cluas.

Something like that!
Although I'm not familiar with the "mcd puff pieces" you're referring to, I understand where you're coming from. The reason it jars so much is because previews like this are rare if not non-existent on Cluas, and it probably does smack of kissing Budrising's behind. Personally, I see these gigs as being important and note-worthy events in the Irish music scene. It is rare we have four lineups of this quality so close together, so personally I see it as a sign of Ireland's increasing attraction as a concert venue, and our relatively newfound ability to support acts like these. Then again I am only a young'un so maybe I'm talking crap!
As for it reading like a rehash of press releases, I understand where you're coming from there too, but that's the type of piece it is, and yes people do it all the time. PR people and journalists hold much in common anyway (in fact it's a far from rare occurance that a person goes from journalism into PR and vice versa), so isn't it pretty likely that they would write something similar when doing the same thing? What is a press release really except a preview of the artist or event in any case? Just a thought.
