I am looking for information and thoughts on how to get a radio show. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to try this and would appreciate any feedback you guys have. I know there are a few subscribers here who do have one so maybe they could share their experience? I was on the Dave Fanning mixtape thingy a while back and got some praise from the head of 2fm and think I could be good at it. I'm not looking to make a career out of it, just something interesting to be involved in. Cheers!

unfortunately I'd say there are a lot of people with the same ambitions. I would recommend that you tarket small community (or College) radio stations first. Once you gain some experience you could push for the larger stations

Indeed. The problem is that I've not got any training or experience and need to get some. Ballyfermot does an 8 week evening course but I don't know whether it is any good or not and I missed the last enrollment.

Sweetie - there's one very simple solution for people who would like to get on radio but have no experience - community radio. CR focuses on access and participation. You learn on the job really. Three things however - -you won't get paid -ideally, you'd want to understand the station's ethos and understand that having a local angle on your show generally is (a) a good idea and (b) far more worthwhile. -if you're looking to present a show with a ultra-commercial sound then don't be surprised if the station tries to encourage you to do it more naturally. Basically, people think they understand community radio and its goals when they don't, really. There's more to it than meets the eye. Every station has its own rules. Tell me where you're based and I'll tell you which station is closest to you.
