| I like "daft" support acts, it makes gigs more fun. Must be scary for the poor support act though! One of the most entertaining support acts I ever encountered was Anat Ben David supporting Chicks on Speed in the Triskel Arts Centre. Shes not really a musician, shes actually a visual artist, but was doing a kind of 21st Century Cabaret act. The Triskel is often used as a cinema so there was already a screen which was perfect. Basically she projected images from a DVD she had created on to the screen, while singing one song over the prerecorded backing of another, e.g. Singing Marlene Dietrichs "Blonden Frauen" over a surf rock track or singing "Trust in Me" from the Jungle Book over "Psyche Rock" by Pierre Henry et Michel Colombier. Believe it or not it all sounded good and not at all dissonant. Her performance interacted with the DVD playing in the background, blurring the barrier between "live" and pre-recorded. It all sounds a bit arty and pretentious, but it was thoroughly entertaining and fun.
U2 used to have loads of unlikely support acts during their Zoo TV tour, Disposable Heroes of HipHoprisy, Utah Saints, etc. ...oh yeah, and BP Fallon DJing in a Trabant.
