The moderator accidentally deleted my thread I posted yesterday, I'm assuming no one had replied to it yet? I was wondering if anyone would be into trading mix cds. Since I'm in the States I'm having trouble locating a lot of the music that's been recommended, and I love trading mixes, so if anyone's interested, let me know. I'm into all kinds of stuff and maybe I can turn you on to some American music you're unaware of. :)

<Donning hat of social & legal responsibility> CLUAS does not in any way encourage the copying of copyrighted music for uses other than personal ones. Copying of music with a view to providing the copied music to third parties – be it for free or for a fee – is illegal. We assume that the mixes above made recently by QsySue were for her own use and that – good citizen that she is – she did not pass them on to third parties. Of course, I am sure that when she refers to the possibility of trading “mix CDs” she is referring to trading mix CDs of songs that are not copyrighted, and certainly not trading the mix CDs she listed above which contain copyrighted material. </Donning hat of social & legal responsibility> QsySue – is it possible that no one replied to your posting due to the fear of prosecution that may have been drilled in to music lovers heads after they saw the RIAA’s recent outing of fans who were illegally downloading and uploading copyrighted songs on the internet? Just a thought. eoghan

When did giving someone a mix cd become illegal? Never heard of that. I think most of the bands whose music would be shared would be stoked to have their audience broadened a bit, and that's my only intention.

I believe theres no problem trading mix CDs with your friends thanks to the US home taping act of 1992, however trading across the internet on a larger scale using a bulletin board is a grey area. Also remember that most users here are located in Ireland and EU law differs slightly from US law so Eoghan is right to be cautious.

Hmm, ok, don't want to cause any problems! If it makes anyone feel better, I'm friends or acquainted with or 8 out of the 14 bands on that last mix, and none of them are going to care. I can easily put together a mix of bands I know personally that would be stoked to know I'm sending their music across the water. :)

Big Black, good Lord! I bought Atomizer and Songs About F**king when I was 16; they're probably the most disturbing albums I've ever heard. I dug out Songs... the other month and put it on: it still scared the sh*t out of me.

Hmm, well aparently you've never heard Einsturzende Neubauten or Psychic TV? :) Big Black are the perfect teen years band. I still love them.

For what it's worth I own records by Einsturzende Neubauten and Psychic TV but still think Atomizer and Songs About f**king are "scarier" albums

I've never thought of Big Black as scary, but since you mention it, I can see how you could. Have you heard Steve Albini's later band, Rapemen? I never have, been curious about what they're like.

yes, I have a 12" Budd and an LP Two Nuns And A Pack Mule - released 1988 I think. Not as immediate as Big Black but good nonetheless. Shellac At Action Park rocks
