todays top tunes:

Blondie - Heroes

and this Schneider TM - The Slide , which is just achingly sad and beautiful.

I found this great tune while driving with my ipod on random this week -
'Panters' from Wilco's A ghost is born bonus disc. I highly recommend it!

Also listening to Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine quite alot.

Omar's right, very of its time and yet sounding like little else from the era aswell.
I saw him play the album live in the Ambassador a few years ago. Incredible show, the man had so much conviction for the music even then.

Still listening to The Cinematic Orchestra's 'Ma Fleur'...an absolute gem of an album and would have been my album of 2007 if had bought it in, er, 2007! Everyone: Buy this album!

Took a while but British Sea Power's new one is really growing on me, even if they do sound like a second-rate Doves at times.

Gemma Hayes (remember her?) 'Home', new track posted on her Myspace page...a real return to form and possibly the best thing she's done.

Cat Power: 'Moon Pix' Back when she was good.

Stars: 'Set Yourself On Fire' If you have to buy one Stars album, buy this one.

Or a 3rd rate Arcade Fire? Their appearance on Jools Holland this week both depressed & angered me in equal quantities!

Doves new album is out soon, so when it is I shall be listening to that!

From what I saw of the show Im with you entirely on this one. That said I only barely had the patience to watch their 1st song and so cant claim to have given them much of a chance. Perhaps if I was just listening and not watching I would have appreciated their music more but I couldnt get passed their 'gimmicky-ness'. Half the members of their accompanying choir werent even singing and pretty much looked confused as to what the hell they were doing there in the first place. The drummer was weak and the singer even more so...

Bring on the new Doves album!

Yeah - it was pathetic. And the costumes? WTF was that about. They even had 2 guys on at the end dressed as wrestlers doing the worst impersonation of wrestlers you could ever imagine. Fuck, we all like a bit of theatre, but when it hit the level of Spinal Tap minus the humour, it's SAD. I reckon they thought "the more gimmicks we have, the less time people will have to make Arcade Fire references."

Have you heard Guy Garvey's show on 6 music - it's usually really good - you can stream it here;
