Every little column inch that heralds Ireland's blossoming talent always seems to have mention of Nina Hynes with Gemma H, Damien R, Damien D, Mundy etc. WHY? I just don't see it at all. Is she getting hyped by association?

Oooooh, I can't agree with this one. I think Nina Hynes is great. She's got a fairly unusual voice which matches the harmonies in her songs perfectly and the songs are pretty diverse, which always makes for good listening. I saw her at Witnness last year and she's great live too. My only problem is her "Staros" album (which despite being great) is over-produced, too much noise which is probably the fault of that guy from the Frames who co-produced it. She doesn't need to "associate", she's a good artist in her own right. And at the risk of being unpopular on this site, I prefer Nina's music to Gemma Hayes, because Gemma is a little too......Sheryl Crow or something, if you know what I mean........... Q2

I have to say I think Gemma Hayes isn't bad at all....I heard that tune 'Back of my Hand' or whatever it's called and was humming it for days after...I just can't bring myself to but the album though...I should though..there aren't half enough birds in music in Ireland these days doing something decent. Fair play to Nina Hynes....she's putting out her own stuff and doing her bit....but I'm just not into that breathy-breathless mahony girly vocal thing...give me a Polly Jane any day...now she can sing with some bollix.
