| | Went to see her in Whelan's last night as part of her residency there. Really enjoyed it, her songs are so well put together. | | | |

| | Saw the last Whelans gig too, good show. Some really nice songs, though occasionally a bit too cutesy or predictably singer-songwriterish for me.. Must check out that album anyway. Must say I'm not that keen on the new all-white Whelans - get some artists in to paint the place! | | | |

has whelans been painted all white?.... surely that's a big no-no as white reflects and black absorbs... maybe this doesn't apply to sound...
any audiophiles / scientists out there?

| The sound absorbsion of white paint is approximately 2 decibels less per square metre than it's black counterpart. The only way to counteract this phenomenon is to apply a base coat of Magnolia before applying 2 coats of white emulsion. If using a matt based white, the factors are quite different though & the differentials are so complicated, that not even NASA have attempted to solve this conundrum.
This almost caused a revolution in the painting & decorating world in the late 1960's and actually inspired the Rolling Stones to pen the song "Paint it Black".

Was always impressed by The Clash's penning of "White Riot" as a riposte. Less convinced by Pavement's protest song "Black Out".
