Subject: The last picture show.

Anyone know the name of the tune that was used as the theme for The Last Picture Show which used to be on RTE? It's a lovely piano piece, really loungey and laid back. It's been driving me nuts trying to think of it!

I don't know the exact version, but its I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free by Richard Lamb & William Taylor. Performed most famously by Nina Simone.

Peejay, you're confusing the BBC's film show (which featured Billy Taylor's version of 'I Wish I Knew How...') with RTE's The Movie Show that Dave Fanning used to present. Anyway, I think the RTE show's theme was from the soundtrack to The Last Picture Show, a 1970s black-and-white film by Peter Bogdanovich starring Jeff Bridges (I think!)

There was also a Last Picture Show on RTE, which was basically an introduction to a classic movie - the theme for THAT was by Miles Davis, from his soundtrack to Ascenseur à l'Echaffaude ('Lift To The Scaffold').

Now I'm confused.

I was thinking of Dave Fanning film show though, I thought that was the last picture show.

think "last date" by floyd cramer was movie show theme for a while, dunno how many years ago tho
