Seriously dude, relax, if you don't like something then don't listen to it or read it.

No need for all the vitriol.

Name a few bands you actually do like/would recommend?

Of course I like stuff - but seriously, can you blame me for hating the likes of Travis, Keane, Snow Patrol etc? They are some the blandest middle of the road s**te I've ever heard, only set apart from the likes of Westlife coz they've got guitars (or pedals on keys in Keane's case). It's not just a case of "if you don't like it, turn it off". Their music is bombarded at us by record companies, commercial radio and TV stations who fail to do anything to help music progress or to help truly innovative artists.

There have been many brilliant new acts to come out in recent years. Some that come to mind are;

Brakes
Guillemots
M.I.A.
Ladytron
Howling Bells
Go! Team
C.S.S.
Interpol
Maximo Park
Pepe Deluxe

I've also checked out a few of the Irish bands advertising their music here & left comments which, from what I can see, is more than can be said of 99% of people who use the forums here. Some comments are not very positive, but there's very little positive to be said about a lot of it, but at least I am getting involved. From what I've heard, Betamax Format and Star Belgrade have pipped my interest and I will check them out further. It's not all negative, but I will call a spade a spade and will not be censorsed by the "P.C." heads who basically f**k up anyone's right to have a good rant about music when they feel like it. Even though that is surely (at least part) of the purpose of a music forum.

Oh, and if you actually read most of the replies to the Snow Patrol thread, I'm far from being the only one to think this way, or be afraid to express a (valid) opinion.

I don't have a problem with you expressing an opinion at all, just wondering why you didn't start a "Band's I Hate" thread instead?

Oh, and as Oscar Wilde said, "The man who could call a spade a spade should be compelled to use one. It is the only thing he is fit for."

Hey, I'm no fan of Snow Patrol either, but I don't stress about it. Then again, I'm sitting in my own private office, drinking proper coffee and listening to Galaxie 500 right now.

Ladytron and The Go! Team - me likey.

Hang on a minute though, Editors are depressing and you like Interpol? OK fair enough, I'm just a little confused.

You jammy bastard. I love Galaxie 500 AND coffee AND would love to have my own office - unfortunately, I'm force-fed Today FM daily, so can you blame me for being so stressed?

Friday is the worst - that Ray Darcy bastard really f**ks up my day - "dear Ray, do spiders have eyebrows?"

JamesT - first up, be sure to take this this thread in the constructive spirit that I know Idiot Kid started it out with! I'm sure you are, but just wanted to first clear that off the table.

I did a quick check and the three threads you've started to date were all negative in nature. I'd say just diversify the tone a bit and it'll be more interesting for all parties. Anyway, saying Keane or (current day) Snow Patrol or Hot Press are crap is not going to come as any surprise to regulars around here!

To be clear, starting a thread that is a rant is not a problem, but it just becomes a bit tiresome for others when every thread someone starts is a rant. Be sure to kick off a few threads that are more informative, less ranty in nature. Balance it out.

Anyway don't take this advice the wrong way. You obviously have plenty to share in terms of knowledge and passion for mew-zak so keep the posts coming. And hopefully you'll submit a gig or album review to the site some day soon and we'll get to meet you at a future CLUAS writers night...

Best

eoghan, moderator and all that.

Ok Eoghan - your points are fair and I'll take them on-board. For every rant, I'll try posting a positive thread. Looks like I owe you 3 already!!!

JamesT: as the gaffer said, keep posting and try submitting some reviews/articles! And I had a Today FM workplace for 2 years - it then (for work-related reasons) changed to RTE Radio 1 for the next two years and the music quality improved greatly (Ronan Collins always played plenty of Rodney Crowell, Beatles and other airplay-rarities). I now have no office

As Eoghan has said there, I didn't start this thread to have a go at you, more just to see if you had something positive to offer the forum. It's clear that you do and as others have said, I look forward to reading your reviews in future. Just avoid reviewing snow patrol ;-)
