| I see that the Smashing Pumpkins are touring Europe this summer click here to see the dates, but no Irish concert scheduled so far. Would the tragic events of their Point concert be a factor, do you reckon? Have they played in Ireland since then?
Or perhaps, like Wilco, they're just going to give Ireland a miss?
The Pumpkins are playing a small-ish indoor show in Paris next week (at the Grand Rex, a venue the size of the Olympia in Dublin) and headlining the Route du Rock festival in Brittany in August. They're also playing the Reading and Leeds festivals...

| | They did play Ireland since the Point show. Smaller gig...Olympia or V.st, I think. | | | |

| Heres the new album cover... not sure when itll be out. The covers woeful. Its like Green Days American Idiot or Metallica's St. Anger, not very Pumpkiny. Oh I think that there last gig before the break-up was the dublin Olympia one.

| As far as I know they said they'd never play a large venue in Ireland again,
They played the Olympia in 2000, it was the last show of their European tour and as far as I remember it was the second last show they played before splitting.
It was a good gig, but at the time all seated rock concerts were weird and scary, now I'm older and stand up concerts are weird and scary.

| From what I've heard Jeff Tweedy was not too impressed by the Irish crowd when he played here solo last. Too many people who liked to hear their own voice type of thing.
As far as the Smashing Pumpkins are concerned, I still would not be surprised to see them added to the EP lineup. I've been reassured by a reliable man that they are still a definite possibility.
That said they are playing in Turkey on the saturday I think.

I'm not surprised, it was one of the weirdest audiences I've ever been in. Way too charged for an acoustic set. But Wilco were already skipping Ireland before that gig, so I don't think we're to blame...not that instance anyway. Tweedy handled that show like a pro, it has to be said. If that was Lou Reed he would have set the dogs on us.

Spotter's badge there, Peejay - I'd forgotten about that one. But I was right in thinking that they wouldn't be up for playing big Irish gigs again.
Maybe they'll play a secret club gig under an assumed name - watch out for any Whelans gigs by the 'Terrific Watermelons' or the 'Pumping Smashkins' ;D

| | I thought Tweedy was grand at Vicar St. He's always a bit sarky. | | | |

| I was at Olympia gig. Bit weird sitting down at it but it was fantastic. Two drummers, a ten minute drum solo that led into Bullets. Terrific stuff.
RTE filmed the entire concert. I had it on tape but have since lost it. Strangely, there is no youtube footage
