Make sure to catch 'Later....With Jools Holland' tonight. He's going to have Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire and Black Eyed Peas on. Well two out of three aint bad!!!! It's on BBC 2 at 23:30.

em, the Arcade Fire are nothing like the Polyphonic Spree, other than the fact that there's more than a guitarist, bass player and drummer in the band. Maybe you should listen to some of their music to find out?

I'd say that arcade fire and polyphonic spree are in the same ballpark but playing different games. The spree are a happy, clappy band and the fire are into death and things but they bith make music on a grand orchestral scale.

the ONLY common thread with the band is that there is a greater number of members than usual. That's it. There's no point in musically comparing them on that basis at all.

Apparently Mark E. Smith and his band, The Fall are appearing soon. According to the (excellent) popbitch, he had a clause inserted into his contract that Jools is forbidden from playing boogiewoogie piano over his tunes. Legend!

I think the Polyphonic Spree comparison comes partly form their often very joyous and celebratory sound, but mostly cos they have a wobbly voiced front man a la Flaming Lips/Mercury Rev/Spree. I definitely got a bit of that on first listen. But theyre SO much better! Hope they're around for a long long time.
