I'm going to New York for a week's holiday from the 5th to the 12th of June. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good websites where I good get information on gigs in the big apple?

Pick up a free copy of the Village Voice or the NY Press. The Voice, I think, has a website...

The Onion is in a print edition in NYC, and has great listings. Just head to some cool spots, they'll be more exciting than the gigs. For the history side of things, I'd recommend The Blue Note (in the village), Bowery Ballroom (on Bowery) CBGBs and Sin E. Predictable and great. Any of the smaller live spots in the village are great

www.pollstar.com Its actually a worldwide site which lists tours and gigs big and small by city and country. also worth checking out if u are heading off somewhere. the problem with a lot of the magazine websites for NYC in particular is that they only concentrate on the next week or 2, not very good when u are planning a trip a few months away

that reminds me - best bar in NY is called Niagra and it's just at Tompkins Sq Park. it's co-owned by jesse malin and they have some of the best bar DJs there I've ever come across - one lad has the best collection of reggae/ska i've ever come across. also good for tips on bands to see

Sorry to bring this topic back up, but I'm wondering if anyone has any more info on decent gigs, places to go etc in NY between June 13th-20th. Bloc Party are playing but it's sold out so I'm looking at Iron & Wine. And much appreciated if anyone could recommend any record stores or book shops!!!!

as above, check out pollstar.com for the gigs for the record shops/books shops.... book shops - two to always check are strand books (8 miles of books - put aside a few hours to explore this place) and st marks books (st marks place - ace selection of stuff) record shops - other music (for indie/electronica), normans (secondhand s**t), rock & soul (cheap-as-chips hip-hop vinyl), fat beats (hip-hop) and i will remember more by the morning
