I'm dumb. How, tell me please, would I assemble one of these podcasts, I mean, I know how to download them, but how do i MAKE one, and further more, how would I upload it on to me blog?

I have no experience of the matter, but at a guess I would suggest the following. You need to create A WAV file first: this is a recording of your voice done through some simple recording software on your PC, presumably with music or whatever interspersed between. Then you need to convert that said file to an MP3 file, there's tonnes of free software that would that. I guess you would then upload your said file to your blog. You'll probably need some kind of editing software to cut the thing together as well...sound forge or pro-tools or something. I imagine the learning-curve will be rather steep. That's all a bit vague, I know, but I guess the essence of it is sourcing decent sound recording equipment for your PC. Other folks will suggest more, no doubt. Happy festivus.

A podcast is essentially nothing more than a big MP3 file, there are two parts to getting your podcasts out there: recording it and publishing it. Thankfully, neither is rocket science. First as already stated, you need to record your podcast. You will need recording software and a microphone. You don't need anything fancy, cheap or even free software will do, e.g. magix music studio, Apple Garageband, Sony Acid Xpress (free), audacity (free). If you don't have broadband and don't want the hassle of downloading free software, but don't want to pay much either, look out for a magazine called Computer Music (or any similar home recording magazine), they usually give away free software on the coverdisc. Ideally get software that can record or export straight to MP3, it saves you the hassle of converting it from another format later. When recording the podcast, you can assemble it digitally, by mixing MP3s onscreen, with your between song banter using the softwares audio editor. However its probably easier just to DJ using ordinary analogue equipment and record the output using the software all in one go, keeps things spontaneous too. All you need it some sort of preamp to take the input from your turntables/cd player/mike and plug the preamps output into your PC sound card input socket (tip: ensure line in selected and turned up on your computers recording volume). You can buy a pre-amp cheaply enough, but if you've already got a two (or more) channel mixer for DJing, that most likely has a built in pre-amp and will do just fine. Plug the output that normally goes to the PA into your soundcard, plug in your mic/turntables, hit record on the software and just DJ away. The second bit is publishing your Podcast, you can do this via iTunes or another site like http://podcasts.yahoo.com and then just put a link to it in your blog. Or simply upload the file to some of your own FTP/Webspace (e.g. from your Internet provider, geocities or a paid hosting company) and link to that. Be warned though, uploading a podcast takes quite a bit of time, at decent MP3 quality, 1 minute of audio equates to about 1MB, therefore a 1 hour podcast may be 60MB. Forget it you're on dialup, it's ok on broadband but may take a while as the upload speed is usually about half that of your download speed. Hope this helps!

I recommend Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) as far as ease of use is concerned. It exports files as mp3 too.

I find that you can do most things with ACID Pro and Wavelab and they're very easy to use. What's the address of your Blog?

In the case of most blogs, not much really. Blogs allow someone to post and update web content regularly without needing any real knowledge of web publishing, so that means: Blogs = relatively harmless outlet for people with Bi-Polar disorder Blogs with Mp3s = nice way to find good music once you find one you can trust to find decent stuff. e.g. http://music.for-robots.com/

to properly broadcast the podcast you'll need to have software on your website to send the podcast info to ipodder, itunes etc - otherwise people are just streaming a big mp3 file. For people listening to podcasts, iTunes is a great app for listening to podcasts and it and other podcast listening software basically download the podcast on the fly so when you go to your podcast playlist in itunes the info is already there for you. normally you need to have an address like yoursite.com/podcast.php into itunes to receive the broadcast (you can try putting http://www.radiocrackle.com/podcast.php?cat=TheNightWatchShow into the itunes podcast area to see what I mean). If you are the one doing the broadcasting, then this is where your websoftware comes in, which takes the mp3 file and adds some xml to it. itunes then reads the xml file and gets the mp3. The best software Ive found is http://www.loudblog.de . its blogging software, but makes streamable podcasts. i use it on http://www.radiocrackle.com. takes all the mystery out of making podcasts
