With so many musicians doing side projects, what is the best band to form from a stint recording/touring with other musicians? Travelling Wilburys? Velvet Revolver? Reindeer Section? Audioslave?

The Postal Service - even better (and more successful!) than both artists regular gigs Electronic (Bernard Sumner from New Order and Jonny Marr from the Smiths) - Possibly some of the best pop music ever, veers more to the New Order (minus Hookys baseline) side of things than The Smiths, but I think Smiths fans will find a lot to like. Marr as a guitarist has always been noted for the subtle but brilliant touches he added to a pop song rather than showy soloing anyway. The Breeders They probably don't count as I believe they've existed in one form or another simultaneously (or even before) The Pixies, but I like them more than The Pixies. Passengers The U2 side project with Eno and a few others. I actually really liked "Orginal Soundtracks" and go back to it every so often. I kind of wonder what happened to the experimental U2 of this era, the one that also gave us the masterpiece that is "Achtung Baby" and the gloriously chaotic "Zooropa". I mean I can understand them wanting to go back to being just plain old vanilla U2 for a while but "How to dismantle an Atomic bomb" was just the sound of a band getting a bit too comfortable. Get off the creative couch lads and start pushing things forward again!

Isn't "Thin White Duke" just an alias for remix work? (unlike Zoot Woman which is a proper band apparently). Thats pretty common in electronic music. For example, Felix Stallings is known as Felix da Housecat, Elektrikboy, Thee Madcatt Courtship and Afrohead, yet its still pretty much Felix. Another example is Aphex Twin, who is also known as AFX, Polygon Window and about a squillion others. Not too sure why they do it, but you're aren't a serious producer unless you've got a couple of aliases it seems. While we're on the suject of Felix the Housecat and dance music aliases and stuff, I might as well sneak in Thee Glitz, which was the electro supergroup comprisng of Dave The Hustler, Miss Kittin, Tommie Sunshine and Melistar that Felix assembled for his "The Kittenz and The Glitz album" which was one of the landmark albums for dance music in recent times and is still one of my all time favourite albums. By the way, thats quite a list stroller, if thats off the top of yer head, its hard to imagine how big it would be if you put some thought into it. Gotta agree about Black Box Recorder, I had almost forgetten about how brilliant they are, must keep it in mind now that I might soon be in a position to afford to start buying albums again. Looper's great too, I only have their first album though, are the later albums as good?

Black Grape were s**t and yes, they're just Jacques Lu Cont's aliases. So, I'd have to go for Ol Dirty Bastard, Big Baby Jesus, Dirt McGirt, Joe Bananas, Dirt Dog, Unique Ason, Osirus and Russell Jones

Thee Headcoatees - formed by a bunch of girls who were mates with Thee Headcoats. Of course the band later went their seperate ways giving us the solo careers of Holly Golightly, Ludella Black and Kyra Rubella, plus a load of other bands in the Billy Childish/Headcoats/headcoatees gang. It would take too long to go into all of them, so just check out http://www.damagedgoods.co.uk/

You're right about Jacques Lu Cont. He collaborates with Adam Blake as Paper faces and with Adam and Johnny Blake as Zoot Woman but Thin White Duke is just a solo alias like Pour Homme or Man With Guitar. In addittion to being a member of Gorillaz, Deltron 3030, Dr. Octagon & Handsome Boy Modelling School, Dan the Automator is a also in Head Automatica. Another one I forgot to mention is Keno 1 & The Hermit which is a collaboration between Natural Self & Nostalgia 77. Finally Black Grape weren't sh*t, Reverend Black Grape was and still is a quality tune.
