now don't ask me what "awards" ceremony this was, one of MTV's numerous editions but its on constant rotation at the moment (see "telly is gone crap" thread) and i happened to catch this part while channel surfing the other night. in between the obligatory bling-bling s**te they introduced 3 rock acts to share a set from 3 different stages - which was kinda cool idea i must say. its was aussie band "jet" and two american bands whose name i didnt bother to remember. Jet were on first and they delivered the goods, complete with "ready, steady go!" style dancers on podiums. Then it switched to the american acts and it just went from cool to farce. "Green Day" poses, "Busted" aerial manoevres and the obligatory big chorus which I might add, the first singer had to let the crowd sing for him coz his voice was pure poo. Cue the stagedive, and back to the blingbling and fellas wearin oversized sportswear holding the mic in the strangest way possible and shouting "yeh yeh uh uh uh" in the camera. where are all the lionel richies gone? anyway, the contrast between US and non US rock was astounding.

In fairness now, if you're looking at an MTV awards ceremony in the hope that there's gonna be good music played you're bound to come away disappointed. I was also flicking through the channels when the VMAs was on but as soon as the first celebrity presenter came on and fumbled through their scripted monologue (who writes these things?!) I had to switch off or risk damaging my brain forever. Lets start a campaign to improve literacy among presenters of MTV awards

And while we´re at it, let´s include a campaign to make the acceptance speechs more interesting than the usual boring drivel. My granny´s shopping list read on stage would be more entertaining.
