Would anyone else agree with the following theory: It took Madonna 20 years to play a gig in Ireland even though she has always had a fairly large fanbase here. I believe this is because she never believed these fans were worth throwing a show for before but her marketing people probably sat down together in recent times and said "hey, Irish people are suckers, they pay huge money to see almost anybody in concert so lets go get our moneys worth out of them". Fans should not have gone to see her and given her a deserved kick up her botox-injected arse. If she was as big as she once was I doubt she would have played Slane.

Sorry but absolute b*lls. I have seen the following legendary acts live: Prince, U2, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen. Madonna left them all for dead. Euro for euro, the tickets to her show were the best value of any I have ever gone to see and her show the greatest I have ever attended. And I don't like 80's pop. Awesome. If you weren't there, you missed something very, very special.

I never suggested that she didn't put on a good show. I wasn't there but that was simply because I'm not a big fan. I just don't like the reason (that I believe) she played here.

Madonna being a calculating cynical businesswoman? What next? Bono being preachy? Anyway, it must have been REALLY good if even Jules came away a convert!

She has been at the top of the charts for fifteen years or so,played in hudreds of venues if not thousands, i am sure sold absoloute bucketloads of cds in Ireland. Then why didnt she play here?? I think the answer is the fact she was guarenteed a concert to at least 60,000 people with a good chance of escalating to 90,000. I am sick of this "sorry i wanted to play here before but just wasnt able, but i really wanted to" which i translate as "sorry i couldnt be bothered playing here before because i hadnt the security of playing in a venue which is guaranteed to sell 60,000, also i hadnt the security of charging whatever the hell i wanted (becuase i havent been here before,i am sure you will pay for the chance to see me now)". Then coming onto the stage and having the audasity to try and "play up" to the Irish crowd.
