The Sunday Times reports that Madonna is playing Slane this year. They also reckon tickets will be roughly 150 euro (based on the fact that gigs she is playing in England will be 100 sterling). Will it sell? Discuss....

Festivals have become so expensive that people generally go to one, maybe two in the summer. It depends on who is backing Madonna, but at 150 yoyos I couldn't see the punters splashing out. I reckon people will rather spend their cash at oxegen.

She will definitely sell a large number of tickets because as far as I know its the first time she has ever played Ireland. However 150 euro is still a ridiculous amount of cash and theres much better concerts/festivals this summer, Witness/Oxegen for a start, and Heineken Green Energy is back too. (Iggy and the Stooges looks good if theres any tickets left) While its good in a way that Slane is taking a chance and getting away from the rock acts that usually headline, they really are in danger of alienating the typical slane audience. I really don't think I'd pay to see a MTV-type pop act. The true medium for an artist(?) like Madonna is the music video, I think seeing her in concert somehow won't be anywhere near as exciting. Thats not to question her musical ability, she can sing in key and can probably play guitar better than a lot of singer-sonwriter types too! Its just that a concert is less of a reflection of Madonna is about than a music video. Pop concerts can be incredibly dull too. For example, I was incredibly bored last christmas so I decided to tune into a Kylie Minogue concert they were screening. "It can't be that bad" I thought, "after all I even like a few of her songs and she is, well.. aesthetically pleasing" . Nope, it was just unwatchable, I lost interest after 5 minutes and spent the day playing videogames instead.

why would i give 150loots to someone who has never before bothered with us lot? i think the promoters will knock that one on the head long before it becomes reality.

is she not chargin £100 sterling into real small venues in the uk??... surely not £100 to a 90,000 capacity venue. i reckon at slane they'll make their money by quantity of tickets sold not by the price of them. no doubt it'll be more expensive than previous years anyhow.

Jaysis that is shockin, an its only more shockin every year. How do we stop these rip off bastards?? Madona could do with a good boot. You could go to a quality festival in Europe for the weekend with the amount of money ye would spend going to see that, Madonna is only an ould one tryin to get her pension together so she has decided to grace us with her presence. The place will be full of peoples Ma's and butch chicks doin yoga. No thanks. When is Iggy playin??
