So, is it a foregone conclusion that Villagers will win? Perhaps (and hopefully) not: 5/2 with Paddy Power at the time of writing, tight but hardly unbackable: www.paddypower.com/bet/music/choice-music-prize

Still great value on other runners: Cathy Davey at 8/1 and Two Door Cinema Club at 10/1 - surely worth a punt. (I'd be happy if either of those two won. Or, basically, anyone except Villagers.)

Runners and riders (10 go to post):

Adebesi Shank “This is the Second Album of a Band called Adebisi Shank” (Richter Collective)
The Cast of Cheers “Chariot” (Self release)
Cathy Davey “The Nameless” (Hammer Toe Records)
Fight Like Apes “The Body of Christ & The Legs of Tina Turner” (Model Citizen)
Halves “It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever)” (Hate is The Enemy)
    Imelda May “Mayhem” (Universal)
James Vincent McMorrow “Early in The Morning” (Universal)
    O Emperor “Hither Thither” (Universal)
Two Door Cinema Club “Tourist History” (Kitsune)
    Villagers “Becoming a Jackal” (Domino)

Villagers, foregone conclusion? The safe money really has to be on them. But the Choice Award has has thrown the off curve ball in its time (...Super Extra Bonus Party...) so - yes - I wouldn't be surprised to see the Prize bagged by an outsider such Two Door Cinema Club (still on 10/1 with PP, Villagers now at 2/1).

TDCC are only outsiders in the sense that punters aren't putting money their way, so P. Power Esq. still has them at a tasty price. But they and Cathy Davey have one foot in daytime airplay and the other in night-time indie cred, which has to be worth something. Expect to see their prices shorten as the early 'favourite' tag starts to bore people off Villagers...

I would not be surprised to see one of the smaller acts take it this year, Adebesi Shank seem to be causing a major stir in music at the moment. It'll be interesting to see, personally I'd love to see a more unknown act take it. The Villagers and TDCC just seem so predictable.

Villagers now in to an unbackable 1/3 on for the win, rest of the field falling away. Looks like Mr Power could start paying out already... :(
