The Electric Picnic line-up has been announced. A solid enough roster but - if you were asking me - it is lacking any major, major names. Maybe some are in the pipeline.

For comparison just take Wechter Festival this year where they will have Muse, Green Day, Arcade Fire, Pearl Jam...

    Roxy Music
    LCD Soundsystem
    Massive Attack
    The National
    PiL
    Leftfield
    Gil Scott-Heron
    The Frames
    Imelda May
    Modest Mouse
    New Pornographers
    Seasick Steve
    808 State
    Hot Chip
    Fever Ray
    Beach House
    Jonsi
    Edan
    Fat Freddy’s Drop
    The Waterboys
    Liquid Liquid
    Booka Shade
    The Horrors
    The Big Pink
    The Low Anthem
    Mr Scruff
    Paul Brady
    Monotonix
    Cymande
    Bloody Beetroots
    Steve Earle
    Bad Lieutenant
    Crystal Castles
    Afro Celt Soundsystem
    Mumford & Sons
    Here We Go Magic
    Field Music
    Caribou
    Dublin Gospel Choir
    Messiah J & The Expert
    Adrian Crowley
    Villagers
    Redneck Manifesto
    Breakastra
    Memory Tapes
    Steve Mason

Wasn't EP always supposed to be a "boutique" festival anyway? A festival without Green Day fans sounds pretty appealing to me, that EP lineup is pretty awesome if you ask me, only downside is I'm not really mad about the whole three solid days in a field festival thing.

No marquee name though, what are they doing with all the money? very very expensive to attend.

Binocular you're right that it was supposed to be boutique and I went the first year for 54.50 for the day in 2004....

Now its on for 3 days and the prices are 5 times plus that price....

Economically we actually had relatively flat levels of inlfation last year...where is A) The reflection in the price & B) If the price is still excessive, where is the marquee name to justify it?

Its so typical of the promoters in this country...."We'll give you fish and chips and charge you lobster prices....cos we have head massage tents and lots of colourful trendy nostalgic sh*t to waste your money on"......

Paryon, you've hit the nail on the head there, I too went the first year, but not later years. It's not so much the lack of a big name, but the whole having to spend several hundred euro and commit to an entire three days, which just isn't realistic for me. A small one day festival idea was brilliant, no stress, just buy your ticket. get there, have fun and go home, no pressure whatsover, that first year was very cool.

Now its morphed more and more into just another big festival, Like Oxegen.
