Saturday 18 April is World Record Store Day - while we're all familiar now with Road Records in Dublin (especially with the drama of their near-closure), are there any worthwhile record shops in the rest of Ireland? Not just high street stores but shops that sell records by local acts and help create a sense of community among musicians and fans in their area.

Personally I can't think of any examples apart from Good Vibrations in Belfast. I was on Patrick Street in Cork and spotted F.M. Records - but it only flogs Foster & Allen CDs to American tourists. Is there a cool music shop in Cork? What about mythical places I hear on radio ads, Zhivago Records in Galway, Heartbeat City somewhere in the midlands...

Can we make a list of decent record shops outside Dublin?

Cool Discs - Derry. Great shop, if big Lee can be a grumpy hooer ;-). Will order in any CD / LP / 12" you want. Cool Discs Presents (CDP) alos promote in the city. Due to the downloading culture, the shop size had to be halved a while back, but she is still there and cooking.

Zhivago's? Absolute shite - wandered in there yesterday to witness those brothers who won that All Ireland celebrity show play an 'exclusive' gig. The place is devoid of chracter and charm unlike Mulligan's which, alas, closed a few years back.

I was curious because I had heard the name. I'd never heard of Mulligan's, though. But is Zhivago the only record store in Galway? Surely there's something else, perhaps even a decent one.
