Oscar nomination for best original song. I just watched the video for it on YouTube, had never heard the song before. I do think that Glen can write good tunes from time to time but that's really s**te. |

Can't be any more surreal than seeing Elliot Smith performing on it a few years back! 'Falling Slowly' is ok but there are actually better songs in the film. |

Once, August Rush and then Enchanted is nominated THREE times. Is there really so little performed music in film these days that they have to nominate three songs from one film. Seems a bit silly. |

I think the problem is the 'Original' criteria ... Most soundtracks are collections of existing songs. I'd have thought Eddie Veddar was a shoe-in for 'Into the Wild' |

I'd have thought Eddie Veddar was a shoe-in for 'Into the Wild' I'd be interested to know what the definitions are. There's an Oscar for Best Score aswell, but what does that have to be? Instrumental, violins only? conducter? If its an award for a song thats purpose built for the film, then surely Glenn shouldn't be qualified for nomination. Aren't these just the Swell Season songs that were later adapted for the film? If thats allowed then I'm shocked that My Morning Jackets 'Goin to Acupulco' from I'm Not There wasn't nominated. It's an old Dylan song but it was purposefully re-recorded for the film and (unlike everyone else on the soundtrack) they actually perform the song in one of the scenes. It's probably one of the most affecting scenes in the film too, its incredible. |

Good Point! - 'According to a report from Los Angeles Times' The Envelope, Greenwood's much-feted, 8.1-earning score for Paul Thomas Anderson oilman flick There Will Be Blood will not be eligible for an Academy Award nomination this year... it's been disqualified because "the majority of the music was not composed specifically for the film... The parts of the score in question come from Greenwood's British Composer Award-earning piece Popcorn Superhet Receiver (which, incidentally, made its U.S. premiere just last week)' Interesting eh?! |

It seems flawed. There's a scene in La Vie En Rose at a boxing match (now I wouldn't be an Edith Piaf fan and I don't speak a work of French) but I think it's one of the best marraiges of music and visuals I've ever seen. It was absolutely spellbinding. It definitely enhanced the film (its a long one, so it needed a bit of energy to boost it halfway through) and it brought out the best in her music. I don't know what the song was though but its not like the film went under the radar, its nominated in other categories. Maybe it's more of an editing thing than music but surely the whole point is to enhance the visuals, so it shouldn't matter when the song was written, only how its used and how well it serves the film. I've never seen Enchanted, but three nominations is nonsense when there was so many great musical moments last year. (I wish Glen the best though) |

I haven't seen the film, but I've heard the music, so I won't be watching the film any time soon. |

Here's the song if you haven't heard it yet. Make you own mind up, etc. (BTW this thread was 'split out' of a thread about the film 'Once' that was started a while ago). |

Does anyone know if the rumour - that Annie is his mother - is actually true? |
