    I'm thinking of heading up to Belfast for the Okkervil River gig in a couple of weeks. I've never been to a gig up there (actually it's been years since I've been to Belfast full stop) and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the venue, location, if there's safe parking around etc.

    Yeah it's a great venue, played there a couple of years back. Nice vibe off the place. There's a University nearby so you might get parking there. Just be careful not stray too far from it venue. There's a loyalist housin estate down the street. Got a couple of warnins from shop keepers to be careful coz of our accents. Other than that it's cool there. Hope that was of some help. Have a good one!

    Cheers. You've got me a little worried about parking the car now though with it's free state licence plate.

    The Empire is a brilliant venue,old school. Get in early and get a seat upstairs at the back, has a row of old cinema style seats over looking the stage and a wee bar. (unless this is a throwing shapes gig, then you'll not want to sit) Decent food downstairs too

    few pics from a walls gig there in the summer of 06 I found

    Belfast's full of them.. if you park at yr hotel / B&B, you'll be grand. Belfast's not the warzone it used to be!

    Had been planning on driving home to Kildare after the gig though.

    There used to be a car park on Ormeau Avenue run by National Car Parks, about 5 mins walk from Botanic Avenue - you might wanna check it's still there though! Failing that, I'd ring some of the B&Bs there (there's tonnes of em) & ask if you can park there for a few hours if you pay them a few quid.

    I'm up the North quite a lot, for football as well as gigs and never had any car related problems. I've been to the Empire too, and parked up a side street on the left immediately after the venue, travelling away from the city and everything was grand. I've found, in fact, that locals, clocking my 05D reg, cut me a bit of slack when I find myself in the wrong lane etc.

    True.. I wouldn't worry too much about it either - I'd be more worried parking on the street in Dublin.

    2 americans pull up near Sherrif Street & ask a youngfella;

    "Hey, if we park our car here, will it still be here in the morning?"

    The youngfella replies;

    "Ye can park yer car anywhere in Dublin, mister, and it'll probably be here in the morning."
