Pearl Jam in the point, October '96. was 14 and was only allowed go if i had a seating ticket and parents dropped us off and collected us. Still thought we were sh*t cool though!! Best gig, dunno, but Stereo MC's were great at witness '01.

I think REM in Slane 95 might have been my first gig - I was at the bottom of the hill watchining all the Coke cartons flying up into the air - amazing... Best gig = the Frames in Vicar Street - haven't a clue when it was now but they were just amazing. Didn't make me want to be in a band though. That happened when I was only ickle and decided I had to learn how to play Washington Down by The 4 of Us on guitar. I think the thought process went something like, if I can play that ALL THE GIRLS WILL LOVE ME!!! Well, I was only 8 or something...

Old thread, but new member so please forgive me... First ever: Bob Marley in Dalymount, 1980. Best ever: Primal Scream at the Point, December 1999ish. Best this year: Doves in the Olympia last week was awesome but Kraftwerk at the Picnic shaded it. Noisiest ever: The Ramones at the TV Club, 1980something. Hottest ever: Underworld in the Red Box, 1999 or 2000 Worst ever: Happy Mondays, Witness 1999 Most drug-enhanced: photo-finish between Mad Professor in the Olympia 1997ish and Alabama 3, Stereo MCs and Avalanches back-to-back in the Dance Tent at Witness 2000 Most "That's it, I'm giving up DJing": 2 Many DJs at Witness 2001 Most "Uh-oh, this is gonna get nasty": The Fall in McGonagles, 1985(?) Most "You're never too old to pogo": The Undertones at Witness 1999 First festival: Thin Lizzy & U2 at Slane, 1980 Best festival: Electric Picnic 2005 Best venues: TV Club, the Underground in Dame St., McGonagles, SFX, all RIP.

Welcome aboard Doctor! Seriously old thread you dug up there. Tis quite a list too, your choice of venues and gigs are enough to bring a nostalgic tear to the eye of all Dublin thirty somethings. Of course, most of those venues were hovels but I'll always have a soft spot for the underground, upstairs in the White Horse with the stage built from milk crates, McGonagles, one of the best venues the city ever had.

First gig was Simple Minds in the RDS in 1989. Support was by Something Happens and Texas. Yes, Texas! I was 15, with two coke-sized cans of Fosters inside me and my cousin and her boyfriend keeping an eye (in order to fulfil Mammy's conditions) Memorable for Something Happens and havin' the horn for Charlene Spiteri at the time. Best gig: I have been to manys a splendid gig i am happy to say and i will be to many more, fortune permitting. This year, i mean last year, Arcade Fire at Electric Picnic were excellent as were Kraftwerk. The Shins in Whelans in April 04 blew my little cotton socks off and, despite my hatred for The Point, I've seen Bowie there 3 times and he's been top f**king notch every time although the ultimate gig was the Sound & Vision Tour in 1990.

Bob in Dalymount..wow! Would've liked that alright! My first was Dinosaur Jr. in McGonagles (glad to see someone else mentioned that venue as well!) Best is a toss up between Page n Plant in the point, Ian Brown in the Olympia (good while ago) Fugazi in the red box or good oul REM in Slane, seems to be a popular one. Worst was the Thrills in the Olympia, too much time on my hands and just got paid. could've spent that cash a bit wiser me thinks!

my first gig was Oasis in the point in 94(i think) fantastic. other great gigs around that time were seeing Ocean Colour Scene several times, (i guess i didnt know any better, but Mosley Shoals had some good tracks), between the those gigs i think that cemented the fact that i would be in a band. in recent years probly REM at marlay park, im a big REM fan and it was a greatest hits show which suited me down to the ground. RHCP supporting U2 at slane was great too. actually, now that i think about it, 2002 witnness, i saw Basement Jax, well, about 4 songs. it was f**king great, unreal, i wa there with the lads and my girlfriend at the time, we met her mate who decided she(the mate) wanted to go home cos she had work the following morning. i had to leave. i will probly always hold it against her(the mate)! saw paul mcCartney when he was over too, in fairness not matter how many "The Girl is Mine" type tracks he records or how ever much he is a geek, perhaps more than Paul simon, hearing those Beatles' tunes live was something special. i really love to see The Boss

My first gig was Paul Simon in the RDS when I was about 10 and my mum got ill and couldn't go and my dad had a spare so he brought me. It obviously had some impression on me becasue I sang at least one of his songs for my junior cert music practical a few years later, why can I remember 3 of them but not the 4th? My "other" first gig (the parentless one) was Oasis at the point around '95 or '96. Nearly got myself killed when I had an asthma attack at the front and fell over about 4 times before making it out.
